Super Central Summer
August 3, 2017
Welcome Back...Almost!
I have missed you guys so very much! I hope your summer has been incredibly relaxing and that you are rejuvenated and ready to make 2017-2018 the best year yet! We have been working hard this summer to prep for your return and as the weeks have turned to days, we are full of anticipation. August 10th will be here before you know it and we will be buzzing around Central making plans for our Pirates to enter our building and embrace learning.
I hope this newsletter will provide some info for the weeks ahead. We want to make sure our teachers get the PD you need and want, while still giving you lots of time to plan with your teams and make final preparations in your classrooms. An outline for PD is provided below, but a much more detailed agenda for each day will be provided on August 10 when we meet up for breakfast.
I hope that this next week brings lots of rest and lots of sweet memories with your families as we transition to the time of year when the days are just a little too short! Know we are thrilled to have you back and can't wait to hear of your adventures and your new ideas. The campus is aching for your return and the sounds of kids in the halls.
See you all SO soon! Love you tons!
- Candice

These hours should be documented in the binder in the front office

Note:
There is one more opportunity to get summer PD credit through LCISD! You can join district experts for the LCISD Google Academy on August 7. Lots of our own Central Elementary staff members will be sharing their expertise and presenting sessions. If you are interested in attending, you can learn more by logging into Eduphoria! and looking under "Upcoming Courses" in Workshop.
August 21 - Campus Symposium
One of the things we love most is to provide opportunities for our staff members to learn from one another. Many of you attended exceptional training this summer and have brought back lots of treasures you will be implementing in your classrooms. We will have a campus symposium day on August 21. This day will be made up of 6 different time slots with lots of session spots.
So...who is ready to share???
This is an open invitation to all Central staff members to present a 45-minute session on something you are passionate about! No topic is off-limits and the more variance we have, the better! You can share instructional strategies, ideas for technology integration, classroom management/organization ideas...the sky is the limit! If you are presenting at the upcoming Google Academy and are willing to repeat your session, we'd love to have you do that, too! If you are interested, please let me know and we will get you plugged into the schedule for the day.
Also, if there is something you want to get trained in, let us know! We want to make sure we are meeting the needs of our teachers. If you have a desire to grow in a certain area, shoot me an email and we will do our very best to find someone to share their knowledge!
Email Candice (ccross@lcisd.net) with your session info or with your request TODAY! :)
We LOVE these days and the wonderful ways our staff members invest in one another!
Have you heard? We're going camping!
Our staff members, paraprofessionals, and student assistants have been working hard to give our campus a facelift and make it warm, inviting, and exciting! I can't wait for you to see all that they've accomplished!
When you report for PD on August 10, please bring a folding lawn chair for use throughout our time have before school starts. Don't worry about lugging it around, we'll let you know when you need to bring it with you! You can just keep it in your classroom so that you have easy access to it, when needed. There are a few times when we are going to set up camp and we think you'll be glad to have one on hand!
Welcome New Staff Members!
Sarah Brewer-Bigelow transitions to her own kindergarten classroom this year after spending last year as a PK teaching assistant and first grade teacher on our campus. We are delighted to see Sarah get to grow in this new role!
Lauren Antcliff joins the Super Central team as a fifth grade Science/Social Studies teacher. Lauren student taught last year under the supervision of Elisha Rowe and Amanda Dunn, so this transition will be a smooth one. Lauren's heart for others in unbelievable. I'm so thankful she is staying with us at Central.
Donna Rolan joins Central Elementary as a second grade teacher. Donna comes to us from Overton Elementary in Lubbock ISD where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade ELAR. I can't wait for you to get to laugh with Donna - she is such a hoot!
Amy McInnes joins Central as a second grade teacher, coming from Bayless Elementary in Lubbock ISD. Amy has experience in teaching both first and third grade. She has extensive knowledge in Balanced Literacy and will be a wonderful resource for us all!
Kayla Sparks joins our second grade team, coming to us from McWhorter Elementary in Lubbock ISD. Kayla has been teaching kindergarten and also has two years of experience teaching first grade.
Jessica Hernandez will be joining the Central Elementary family as a first grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year! Jessica comes to us from Hodges Elementary in Lubbock ISD, where she has been teaching first grade.
Susie Flores will round out our first grade team, coming to us from Hodges Elementary in Lubbock ISD, where she has taught first grade for three years. Prior to that, Susie taught kindergarten in Roosevelt ISD, as well.

Destinee Townley rounds out our Specialist team as our new Art teacher! Destinee comes to us from Wester Elementary, where she has been teaching art. My favorite quote about Destinee is that she is "a rainbow unicorn cupcake" everyday. I don't know about you, but it just makes me grin to think she's so full of love for what she does!
Meri Beth Jeffcoat will be teaching fifth grade ELAR. She comes to us with experience in Canyon ISD and Lubbock ISD, where she has taught both first and second grade. Side note: Meri Beth and I have known each other since we were in kindergarten...just a few years ago! ;) That means, Mr. Bryant was also her high school principal!
Shayla Fortenberry is moving on over to Central as our new GT teacher. She has been teaching at North and will continue to serve that campus in her new role...but I like the think that we have successfully stolen her! :)
Nina Davey has become an official part of our Central family! Nina worked as a substitute teacher for the district last year and spent quite a bit of time on our campus as a long term sub in a few different assignments. Nina will serve as April Baucum's PK TA. We are so happy we snatched her up for our campus!
Susan Turner joins the lovely ladies of PK, coming to Lubbock-Cooper from Tulia ISD where she has been teaching kindergarten and PK/Head Start. Susan is a newlywed, so you might also see her listed as Susan Kern. Whatever you call her, you are going to love her!
Kelly Kelley joins the PK team as a TA for Susan Turner. Kelly comes to us from Levelland ISD, where she has spent the last 11 years working as a TA in PK and kindergarten. We look forward to her expertise with our tiniest Pirates.
Kristin Hill joins the Central family as our new diagnostician. Kristin will be housed on campus this year! We are looking forward to having her as a resource in important conversations about how to best meet the needs of our kiddos. Kristin comes from Shallowater ISD - thank goodness her wardrobe will work as a Pirate!
We have been so blessed! You are going to love working with these ladies - their heart for kiddos and expertise are going to make them excellent additions to your teams and wonderful members of our Central family. I can't wait for you to meet them!
