Preschool Literacy Night
Berkeley Township School District’s annual Preschool Literacy Night was held on Thursday, December 12. We had a great turn out and all of the families enjoyed exploring different stations to promote literacy skills. They followed recipes to make play dough and snacks, played in literacy sensory bins, did art projects, went on scavenger hunts and even wrote their own letters to Santa. There were snacks with a hot chocolate station for everyone to enjoy throughout the night. So much fun was had by both the children and their parents!
Curriculum Spotlight
The Preschool teachers are using The Creative Curriculum in their classrooms and have been studying trees since the early fall. They began this study by focusing on the leaves changing. They discovered the importance of trees in our world by discussing the kinds of food that comes from trees, as well as the kinds of animals that use trees as their home. They continued this study throughout the month of December while learning about tree farms and how they are changing for the winter. The children are seeing the difference between trees with leaves and trees with pine needles. All of these components have been implemented during large and small group through games, stories and discussions. Children also explore in centers that are purposefully set up for learning even more about trees as they play!
