Bushy Bear Tales
Edition 4 - October 2, 2019
BUSHY PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Greetings BPES Community!
It is hard to believe we are truly into the fall season with the warm weather we have been experiencing this week! We look forward to more signs of fall as the temperatures drop in the coming days.
Our students continue to demonstrate excellent learning and behavior as we approach the halfway point in our first marking period. We are excited to announce that as of today, our students have earned 21,794 green Dojos schoolwide this year! We are well on our way to our first schoolwide celebration, which will be held when we reach 50,000 green Dojos! What will our first schoolwide celebration be? We will announce the celebration details once we reach our goal!
Each and every child is contributing to our successful year. Students in our RECC program come smiling into school in the morning and spend their time developing language and learning academic and social skills through instruction and of course, play! In our primary classrooms, students are engaging with our Being a Reader and Being a Writer language arts curricula, while practicing the routines of the language arts block. It is incredible to see their level of independence as they read, write, and engage with text during language arts. In the intermediate grades, students are building on the skills they learned in the earlier grades to increase their reading and writing stamina, engage in deep conversations with one another about text, and reading to learn in the content areas.
Over the last month, our teachers have been collecting data on student performance in the academic areas. Interim progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, October 8 with students. Please review your child's interim report and feel free to contact your child's homeroom or mathematics teacher as appropriate with any questions.
Fondly,
Julia Bialeski, Principal
Keith West, Assistant Principal

Parent and Community Feedback - Summer and Opening Events
This survey will be open through Friday, October 11. The information we gather through this survey will be used to inform our planning for next year's opening. While the survey is anonymous, please keep in mind that the results will be shared with the BPES staff, BPES PTA leadership team, and other community members.
If you are interested in being a part of analyzing and synthesizing the feedback we collect and in helping develop our plan for opening events next year, we invite you to join us in person on Monday, October 14 from 8:15-9:00am in the BPES Media Center. If you would like to attend, please email Mrs. Bialeski directly at julia_bialeski@hcpss.org by Friday, October 11.
We thank you in advance for your feedback and look forward to collaborating to ensure that our summer and opening events best meet your needs in the future.

Carson Reading Room
The Carson Reading Room will be up and running starting October 7! If you are new to our school, this is an amazing volunteer opportunity. You get to work directly with children in a warm, cozy environment as they read books for enjoyment! The students absolutely love going and our volunteers enjoy it as well! If you have volunteered previously, we have made some changes to the scheduling process that we hope will better value your time at our school, and enable you to attend the room with your child. The new structure will also ensure that all children in the school are able to attend the room at least three times a year. Please visit our website (and scroll down) to view the PowerPoint for more information.
Be on the lookout for an email with the signup link from your child’s grade level team leader a few weeks before the team’s scheduled week to find out the specific day your child’s teacher will be attending.
