Message from Mr. Hanzeli
A special hello the parents and guardians of grade 4 and 5 hybrid students:
In my weekly memo to staff, I took some extra time to remind them that it has been almost a year since your 4th and 5th hybrid grade children have been in school. To that end, it is really important that we prepare to meet them where they are both academically and emotionally. We anticipate there may be a few bumps in the road as they get used to some of the former and some of the new routines :-) Our school team is committed to being positive and welcoming.
At the same time, I would ask your patience and positive communication with the grade 4 and grade 5 teachers as they get back in the flow of having students live and present for lessons. They are fabulous teachers, but as I have been telling other colleagues, many of us have now had several weeks, even months, to fine tune how we do things. These professionals will give you all that they have.
As a said, they are great teachers and very willing to communicate, so just keep in touch. We will make it through.
Below are a couple of repeated (from last week) items.
Here we go!!!
Mr. Hanzeli
MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) Testing for students COMING SOON
In February, all of our students in K - G5 will be taking this online assessment in Math and ELA (English / Language Arts). The information from this norm referenced test will give us a good picture of where each student is right now. Needless to say, the test items of this computer based assessment are based on the students grade level and their personal performance, the test items reaching up or a bit down, to determine just what each student can do.
HEADPHONES in preparation for MAP: Please try to see if your child has or can get an inexpensive pair of headphones that plug into their chromebook for the MAP assessment. We have some pairs of headphones to loan, but not enough for everyone and many families prefer to have their child use one of their own.
Snow Day Schedule (below...just in case :-)
Just a reminder, especially during these coming winter weeks, to hang onto the EBE Snow Day(s) and Distance Learning Schedule. It includes the master schedule and all of the meet codes for class session. I have included it below for your future reference.

Our high school students have begun some athletic conditioning. We hope to provide middle school students with athletic opportunities as well. The middle school league athletic directors are meeting on February 5. All activities must allow for social distancing and be held in well-ventilated areas, per health department guidelines.
We learned last night that Snohomish County will be moving to Phase II next week which may change some of our current programming.
Coffee with the School Board
Thank you to all stakeholders for attending our “Coffee with the Board” virtual meetings. During these forums, individuals asked about health district information. The information that the health district uses to inform their decisions and guidance, along with current case rates and metrics, can be found here:
