Ms. Wilson's Fearless First Graders
A note from Ms. Wilson...
Message regarding snack: Please, please make sure you are checking the snack calendar in your students' Daily Folder! Snack was not brought the first couple of days this week and these kiddos really love having a time to eat a little snack in the middle of our morning.
Thank you to those that have donated extra snack for us! If you are unable to provide snack- please let me know so I can make other arrangements for that day. (:
DRA: We will be starting the Developmental Reading Assessment this week. Please be reading with your child every day in hopes that we can get every student at a First Grade level. I would love for them to walk into second grade ready to read! Thank you!

We will be learning about Non-Fiction and some different text features that are represented in Non-Fiction books.
We will continue with our Second Step lessons. These lessons focus on the social emotional development of each learner. There are Second Step homelinks on our grade level website under the parent page. We will also use this time to continue to build our classroom community. We practiced eating with chopsticks during Chinese this week with Mrs. Wu!
I really wanted to give the students an opportunity to collaborate with one another and take responsibility for their actions. I told them that they had to work together to find their own assign spot on the carpet. We talked about not sitting by friends that we might be tempted to talk to and are distracting to our learning. I sat in the library (in our classroom) and allowed the students to talk with one another, collaborate, and decide where the best spot for them would be. They did AMAZING! It was so fun to listen to them work with one another and take leadership over this. This picture is the result! I am so proud of them all!

One thing we are sure of at Monroe, is that we cannot reach our goals and meet the needs of all students if they are not here with us at school. Because of that, we have a continuous focus on improving our attendance. We are striving for an Average Daily Attendance of greater than 95%. Currently, as a school, we are hovering at 93%. Please help us to reach our goal by making sure your student(s) are at school on time, every day. Missing school means missing a lot of new content. We know that absences can sneak up on you. I encourage you and your family to continue to make a goal to miss fewer than five absences this year! I believe that we can do it!
