Cougar Connection
December 9, 2022
From Principal Dr. Barnette
December 9, 2022
We are fortunate to be able to offer many creative expression opportunities for our students through elective classes and extracurricular activities. Last night it was standing room only for our Winter Band Concert featuring both Diegugeño and Oakcrest musicians. Concert photos and videos are available on our Instagram and Facebook feeds. We are so grateful to have Music Director Cat Gold working with our music students. Our booster parents also did a marvelous job. Bravo!!
You have another treat in store on Wednesday, December 14 when our drama students will be performing short scenes and duets under the direction of Jacquelyn Karney. I hope you’ll join us Wednesday at 6:00 PM in Cougar Hall.
We anticipate hundreds of our students dancing, eating, and enjoying a ton of other activities at our upcoming Winter Wonderland Dance on Wednesday, December 21 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Tickets will be on sale next week during lunch for $10. Here is some additional information.
If your student wants to ice skate with their principal while also raising money for future student activities, drop them off at IceTown Carlsbad tonight at 7:30. This is a PTSA fundraiser and should be a lot of fun. Students need to present this flyer when they check in.
Kindly,
Dr. Celeste Barnette

Counseling Department...Helping Diegueño Students/Families
We are still looking for a few more gift cards!
As the holidays approach for some of our students this may be an especially difficult time of year for many reasons. This may be the first holiday since the death of a parent or a parent may be absent from the home. Given the state of the economy, parents may be out of work and so this will be a very different holiday for many students. In some instances, families don't conform to what society says should be happening at this time of year, which can often be a source of great sadness for our kids. The counseling department is aware of some students and families who may be in need this year, and we would like to provide some sort of happiness for the holidays. We are hoping to collect a variety of gift cards for our families, so that they may be able to have a wonderful meal or provide a special gift for their kids. We are asking for gift cards to Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Grocery Stores. We are hoping to provide a gift basket with the cards for approximately 10 families. Any amount would be greatly appreciated by our families during these tough times.
Please turn in any gift cards to the counseling office no later than December 21. As always, the counseling office appreciates your support.
The Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito has a program called Operation School Bell. The goal is to help children thrive and succeed in school by providing new school clothing for those that might have need. This year they are providing students in need with a Target gift card to purchase new school clothing. Please email your counselor and let them know if this is something you as a student or your child as a parent could utilize.
