April is National Autism Awareness Month. This month, we raise awareness for Autism and Asperger's syndrome. Autism is a complex brain disorder that often inhibits a person's ability to communicate, respond to surroundings, and form relationships with others. Please join FMS in raising awareness for Autism.
PA state testing begins this month with the English/Language Arts exam which takes place April 25 - 27. Please be sure to pay attention to the important details about PSSAs and Keystones below.

This is an important time for our students, faculty and staff. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we navigate the testing requirements of the state of Pennsylvania.
FMS TESTING SCHEDULE:
APRIL 25, 26, 27: English/Language Arts PSSA (Grades 6, 7, 8)
MAY 2, 3: Mathematics PSSA (Grades 6, 7, 8)
MAY 4, 5: Science PSSA (Grade 8 ONLY)
MAY 17, 18: Algebra Keystone (Algebra Students ONLY)

If you are thinking of opting your child out of PSSAs or Keystones, you are required to complete the form linked below. The form will take you to a calendar link where you can sign up for a timeslot to come to FMS to review the exam and complete the Opt-Out process.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE INFORMATION and FAQs
It is imperative that the security of the PSSAs and Keystone exams is maintained at the highest level. It is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that students keep their cell phones and smart watches AT HOME during testing.
Bingo Night - Autism Awareness
BINGO NIGHT was a HIT! Over 100 players joined us in the cafeteria for 10 exciting rounds of BINGO. We would like to thank all who came out and supported Best Buddies at BINGO night! A special thanks to the Fugett staff who pitched in to help make this first BINGO night a smashing success.

6th Grade Volleyball

Chester County Football Camp
Please join the West Chester East Football program for a week of football, friendships and fun at the Chester Country Football Camp. The camp will be held the week of June 19-23rd on the campus of Rustin High School. Current W.C. East players and coaches will be on hand to promote self-confidence, good sportsmanship and individual/group instruction on the offensive and defensive schemes and fundamentals of football. Campers will be able to get a feel for what it takes to play a number of those positions.

We have filled all of our committee chair positions! The Executive Board will be officially voting the new slate in during our April meeting.
Giorgio's in Exton is participating in our May 9th Dining Night Out with Maggie Moo's. So now you can support our PTO by ordering dinner and dessert! More details to follow.
Donations for West Chester Food Cupboard
The PTO is collecting donations to support the WC Food Cupboard. Please consider purchasing items in need and having your student place the donation in the blue bin marked "Food Cupboard", located at the cafeteria entrance. items most needed are: diapers, feminine products, cereal, toothpaste, deodorant, canned meat and fish, and canned fruit. Any items that you can spare are always gratefully accepted. We will continue this much needed service throughout the year. Thank you for your generosity and support!

Exploring Day
Exploration Day is an all-day, hands-on career exploration event for students in grades 6-10. Exploration Day is hosted by the CCIU, the CCEDC, the Boy Scouts, and CCRES. It will be held on April 21st which is an in-service day for your school district.
Any family can sign up for $60/student and choose one of three pathways. Drop off and pick up is in Exton, but participants are bussed to two employer sites for interactive activities, with a stop in-between at CCIU for lunch, more activities, and a tour of industry-related classes at TCHS.

April 16th - Virtual Mentoring and Tutoring Initiative
Parents and Community Members, we have heard your call for action. You have said stop talking and act, so let’s go!
Please join the WCASD Team and Dr. Una Martin, Interim Director of Equity, for an informational meeting on April 16 from 2:30PM to 4:30PM at Peirce Middle School-located at 314 Burke Rd, West Chester, PA 19380.
The purpose of this meeting is to mobilize parents and community members to strategize the launch for a Zoom mentoring and tutoring initiative for K-12 students. Come prepared to participate in the discussions and plans to create action steps for the implementation in the fall of 2023.
Upcoming Events from West Chester Communities that Care
West Chester Communities That Care is excited to let area families know of the exciting opportunities coming up in March.
On Saturdays in March, we are hosting a four-week THRIVE Project where teens in grades 7-12 will work alongside area design, marketing and communications professionals to craft a youth-driven professionally designed campaign to address underage alcohol use. Culture shaping products including posters for school hallways and a social media campaign are expected outcomes, along with real world skill development in youth and increased awareness of facts and myths surrounding alcohol use.
March 16th at 6:30pm, in conjunction with WCASD, West Chester Communities that Care will host a Parent Speaker Series event called Talk Now. Know How. Register using the link below.
