What a busy 'making the most of it' kind of week!
We were of course all hoping that further restrictions would be lifted on June 21st but it wasn't to be. It's disappointing but the safety of our Brayton families is more important to us than anything else.
So for the moment, we will have to maintain our distance, our bubbles, our face coverings and our closed events.
But with the good weather comes more outdoor possibilities and you know how we love to be outdoors. That's one consolation.
If you are getting rid of any outdoor play equipment, we would be happy to have first dibs - as long as it is safe, in good repair and school age appropriate. With nearly 400 children in school, our equipment does get a lot of wear and tear!
Thank you for your continued support - have a really lovely weekend.

Stars
This week we have explored animals and talked about how we look after them as pets. We even have our very own vets in Stars and the children have enjoyed taking care of all our poorly animals! We have enjoyed the stories ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell and ‘Mog and the V.E.T’ by Judith Kerr. We have counted dog biscuits, made medicines in the tuff tray, painted our perfect pets and voted for our favourite pet.
In maths we have continued to practise recognising and forming our numbers. In phonics we have looked at the Phase 2 Set 3 sounds – g,o,c,k.
FS/Y1
In maths, we have been recapping lots of what we have learnt this year and practising our calculation skills. We have talked about 2D and 3D shapes and spotted shapes that we can see around us.
Our self portraits in the style of Picasso look amazing! and in worship we have been thinking about the story of Noah's ark and God's promises.
A highlight of the week was taking part in The Biggest Sign. We were so impressed with how well everyone learnt and joined in with the signs to the song, and it was so exciting to be part of something so huge. A brilliant effort everyone.
Year 2
Year 3
Year 4
In Year 4, we have had an earth-shattering experience making/strengthening our own buildings to withstand an earthquake.
Before any concerns about Health and Safety are raised (!) we created our earthquake resistant structures from cocktail sticks and marshmallows in the comfort of our own classrooms. At the end of our D.T. and geography brief, each group tested the strength of their structure on a tray of wobbly jelly ( I mean an earthquake in a bowl!).
The children evaluated the success of their designs orally and in writing showing understanding of how different construction features can withstand shaking during an earthquake. In addition, thanks to the marshmallows and jelly, there was a very sweet smell in the classrooms at the end of the day!
We have also been investigating angles in maths, persuasive texts in guided reading, not to mention the record breaking attempt at The Big SIng. What a varied week!
Year 5/6
This week in year 6 we have been moving on to our Native American topic, looking at the many different tribes, regions and what their cultures and rituals are. The children will be creating presentations to share their findings of their information hunt. In English, we have been describing the characters of our story Holes, from the perspective of a Yellow Spotted Lizard - what would they look like in the eyes of a desert dwelling creature. In Maths we have been continuing our work on the four operations and moved on to square and cubed numbers. A great week guys; well done!
