Summary
I read this book because I really enjoy dystopian settings in books. I also love reading series so I was very interested in this series. So far, I have not regretted my decision. I absolutely loved this book and the series so far. I don't think it would be a good last book only because you will be so interested in what happens next. Now, if you can read the whole series then ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY! It is riveting and a real page turner. There are twists and turns that you will never see coming! Three things I loved are the idea of family, trust, and the dystopian theme. The boys really have to band together and trust each other and become a family if they have any hope of surviving this man-made thing that they don't understand. This book is super dystopian. It has a huge man made maze with creatures and moving walls in a world that has been scorched by sun flares and in turn been riddled with a terrible disease called the Flare. A couple things I did not like were-well nothing. I loved the book 100%; the movie is another story. I really connected with Chuck and his relationship with Thomas. Chuck is such a sweet kid that means well but still gets made fun of. He is really sensitive and just needs a friend. I am kind of the same in a sense. "all the same, Thomas now had a plan. As bad as it was, he now had a plan."(291) Thomas knew they would have to take risks in order to survive and make it out of this sick experiment they were part of. He knew that no matter what someone would get hurt but more would survive than die, hopefully. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who enjoys dystopian books and really fast-paced books.
What did I learn about humanity and the ways of people by reading this book?
I learned that people can be blindly cruel. People will do anything when it comes to surviving. Life is survival of the fittest; which happens to be the main theme of the book. People will lie, cheat, and betray if it means that they will live. There are those few people though that will risk their lives and put someones life before theirs. They care about others. It is rare to find that in people.
