Principal's News

Dear Cliffwood School families,

We've finished more than 1/4 of the school year and things are off to a great start here at Cliffwood! Our students and staff are working hard while having fun each day, and I'm very proud of the progress our learners have made so far. I would like to thank all the parents/guardians who came out for teacher conferences; our turnout was tremendous! I am constantly amazed by the level of involvement from so many of our students' families, whether it be meeting with their child's teacher, participating in class activities, volunteering for events, and much more. I wish all of our students, their families, our staff, and the whole Cliffwood community, a joyous holiday season and a happy new year! Best wishes,

Mark Van Horn, Principal

Dressing warm for recess

The weather is getting chilly outdoors so dressing warm is key! Daily recess is important for students to get fresh air and exercise. We typically go outside unless the temperature is extremely cold. Coats and layers are recommended. Please also make sure that your child has safe footwear for playing. Thanks for your help with making recess the best it can be for our students!

Info about food and allergens

Our district's food service, Chartwells, does not sell items with peanuts or tree nuts. As for eggs, diary, and other ingredients, parents may access Nutrislice, Chartwells’ online menu, which provides nutrition and allergen information. The website address is The link is also available on the Food Service section of the district’s website. There is also an app for parents/guardians to download to their phone. Adults may choose a filter for allergens using the filter tab on the upper right side of the page. We hope you find this info useful!

PTO holiday shop is next week

Cliffwood's terrific PTO is running their annual holiday shop next week. Please click here to view the schedule for when your child's class will be visiting the shop. Thanks again for supporting our students and the PTO!

Show your Cliffwood Pride!

Be on the lookout for info from our PTO about new Cliffwood Proud window clings! These look great and are hot off the press; they will be available very soon for our Cliffwood families!

Even though our One School/One Book program is ending...

...It's super important that we continue to stress the importance of reading! We had tremendous participation in our first One School/One Book project and everyone at school is Cliffwood Proud of our students and their families for their reading efforts. Even though The Mouse and the Motorcycle is finished, I encourage all of our families to keep reading daily with your child(ren). View the image to see a small # of the benefits gained from reading each day! Lastly, if your child really enjoyed The Mouse and the Motorcycle, it's a great idea to read the sequels, Ralph S. Mouse and Runaway Ralph.

Using Clever to access all programs

Just a reminder for all students (and their families) that learners can access all school programs by using Clever, our new single sign-in solution for all logins/passwords. Here's how to use Clever:

MARSD district website > Clever (under Shortcuts) > type student's email address ( > type student's password (first initial last initial and 6-digit ID#, an example for me would be mv123456) > You may need to accept Google's Acceptable Use Policy on the next screen > then choose from various programs once inside Clever.

Using Clever gives your child easy access to important programs like Raz Kids, Reflex Math, and more. Contact your child's teacher with any questions/issues. Also, be careful logging in because several users have entered their email address with domain (which is incorrect) instead of (which is correct).

Star Student awards

Students who have exemplified November's theme of CARING will be recognized at our upcoming Star Student meeting. The date/time for this meeting is Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. in our cafeteria.
