Specials for the Week of February 3rd- 7th
P.E. will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. Please wear tennis shoes.
Media Center will be on Thursday. Please return your library book so you can check out another one.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Star of the Week, Brent LaRocque!
We were able to get out on Tuesday to "taste" the snow! Hopefully your children were able to play in the snow on our days off. I am so thankful for my students and their safety during the winter storm!
We will exchange valentines in kindergarten on February 14th. Look for information and a class list on Monday.
LANGUAGE ARTS
We are working on:
- * Building sight word vocabulary- W.O.W. Study- our new words this week are: could, has, what, by, some
- * Knowing letter sounds and blending sounds together to make words
- * Focusing on reading words with a short vowel in the middle
- * Working on producing rhyming words
- * Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- * Learning to find the "evidence" in a text to support or explain the author's thinking
- * Features of Non-fiction text
- * Learning to write a "How To" story and phonetically spelling words to write a story
- * Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers
MATH
We are working on:
- * Counting by fives, tens and ones to 100!!
- * Composing and decomposing numbers 11-19
- * Recognizing and knowing the value of coins; penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and the dollar bill
- * Counting forward beginning from a given number in sequence
- * Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- * 1-1 correspondence
- * Comparing sets- more, less, same
- * Using our Math tools- the rekenrek and number line
- * Working on problem solving skills
- * Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- * Learning about Martin Luther King Jr.
- * Learning about the effect of gravity on objects
- * Learning about goods and services

REMINDERS
- * Do you want to see the PRINCIPAL wear pajamas to school?
Donate $1.00 (or more) to Relay for Life, and you could see all of them in pajamas!
Our school goal is $750. If we make it, the principal and assistant principals will have to wear their pajamas! Join in the fun! Donate to your classroom teacher, and if you make your classroom goal, your class will get to wear pajamas... and your teacher has to wear them, too! Bring in your money starting Monday, February 3rd. The last day to collect money towards our goal is Thursday, February 6th. Friday, February 7th will be pajama day if we can meet our goal!!
