Propaganda

Red Iceberg - Cold War
The Cold War was as much a internal conflict as it was global, the United States being split among pro Democracy and dissenters. This piece of propaganda was created during the Cold War in order to stimulate hatred among communists. This propaganda uses false cause in order illustrate how communism will lead to death, the tombstones appearing on the communist iceberg. It also uses bandwagon in the ship to persuade the population to get on the Communism hate train and avoid the deadly iceberg. Extending on this there is a black and white fallacy due to the nature of Communism and Democracy being the only two options, forcing people on the fence to choose a side. The final fallacy included within the piece is an appeal to authority. Placing Uncle Sam in high image, this showing how the US should follow him past Communism. Overall this piece is used in order to persuade the population to denounce Communism or overall face death.
Join Or Die - Revolutionary War
The revolutionary war was the conflict that successfully split the US from the mother country of Britain. However as there was much secular tension between the States many did not want to join together to fight. This famous piece created by Benjamin Franklin was an attempt to persuade colonists to join together. The major fallacy in this piece is a black and white fallacy, telling the colonists that they will literally join together or die trying to survive, hoping that this will force them together. This could also be a slippery slope with the same purpose of terror, that not joining will lead to death. This piece also has an appeal to emotion hidden behind all of the image and words, it appealing to the anger the colonists had against Britain. The final fallacy in this piece is a bandwagon, saying that if the colonist join then there will be a massive snake that can attack the British.
Liberty Bonds - WW1
During WW2 America was suffering from economic issues created by wartime production as well as loans sent to Britain. Their solution was to develop a system of bonds in order to continue to produce wartime necessities. This piece below was one of many used to persuade Americans to join in the War Bond market. The most obvious fallacy in this piece is the slippery slope, that buying war bonds will lead to death of enemies, motivating citizens to partake. The other fallacies in this piece are less prevalent. The second being an ad hominem fallacy, calling the enemy a menace in order to make Americans want to eliminate them. There is also an appeal to authority in form of the us ,military in the background, showing off its power to kill in order to make the citizens believe that their money is being put into a good cause. The final present fallacy is the black and white fallacy, stating that either the citizens buy liberty bonds and defeat the enemy or don't buy bonds and the enemy will survive.
Auxiliary Military - WW2
WW2 saw an increased need in soldiers to fight the war. Likewise much propaganda was then focused on the gathering of civilians to enlist. Making them jump on abandon gin in hopes of getting them to join. A slippery slope, and black and white fallacy in place in order to persuade civilians to join to defeat hitter or loose. The final fallacy in this piece is the ad hominem of Hitler and the Nazis, making him seem small and minuscule as a way to make people confident that they can defeat him and his facist state.
My Propoganda
The purpose of my piece of propaganda was to convince people and families to do their part at home. I included two visual fallacies in the form of slippery slope and the black and white and a slippery slope. This is to convince people that they either do their part or the axis will not be defeated and by doin their part they will indeed be defeated. An appeal to authority places the United States high above everything else in an attempt to create hope among all of the civilians that they can do it. This is continued to be shown in the final bandwagon fallacy, which hopes to convince people to join like everyone else and to do their part to end the war and defeat the axis.
