A Message From Our Principal
It's hard to believe, but Fall is here and a quarter of the school year is behind us. I feel we have had a great start to the school year and know many great things are yet to come. This is also a time of year where our staff will be taking time to remind our students of our three school expectations. These read as follows. Colts choose to: do our best, be responsible, and take care of each other. As situations arise and we either need to encourage our students or correct a mistake in behavior, most situations can be corrected by focusing on one of these three expectations. Our students do an excellent job regularly, but on occasion reminders are helpful. Please feel free to discuss these three expectations with your child at home as well.
Mr. Fantone, the incoming principal, and I are already at work for the transition as principal. We are speaking regularly to bring him in the loop for decisions that already need to be made for the near future. He has already joined our School Improvement Council as an active member. He will also be shadowing me and spending a few days at SES during the month of December. We will be visiting classrooms, and I will be introducing him to students during his days here in December. My last day at SES will be December 18, and Mr. Fantone will begin as principal right after the winter break. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the transition.
Please let me know if I can assist you and your child's education. I am happy to help! Enjoy this cooler weather and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday break!
Sincerely,
Peter Olinger, Principal

Trailblazer of the month!
Shout out to our 5th Grade Trailblazer of the month, Abby Makwinski. She has been doing an amazing job as one of our office greeters and is a great leader at our school! Congratulations Abby!
Notes from the Nurse
Ever wonder if you are dealing with the common cold or if you’ve come down with the flu? Both the common cold and the flu are respiratory illnesses caused by a virus. Antibiotics will not be effective in treating these viruses because they are intended to treat bacterial infections. Although the common cold and the flu are caused by different viruses, the similarities in symptoms may make it difficult to tell the difference based on symptoms alone. In general, flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more intense. Colds are usually milder than flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose.
Flu viruses are always changing and the vaccine cannot prevent all cases of flu, but the
flu vaccine is the best protection against the flu. Once you receive the flu vaccine, it
takes about 2 weeks for your body to develop protection. Good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the cold and flu.
Following these good health habits could lessen your risk of illness during cold and flu season:
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick and keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
2. Stay home when you are sick to prevent spreading your illness to others.
3. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing to help prevent those around you from getting sick.
4. Clean your hands often with soap and water to protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
6. Practice other good health habits like cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

Thankful greetings from the Library~
Thank you all for your support of the Follett bookfair in October. Thank you for reminding your child what day is library day so they will bring back their books! Thank you for your continued support of our needs (starburst candy, donated used/new books/, 24 or 100 piece puzzles) – all which we still need~ , but a strong request for old greeting cards or playing cards or any item that could be turned into a bookmark!!! Thank you for most of all for continuing to encourage your child to read! Keep them ‘gobbling up’ those books!

In Technology we have discussed the concept of Media Balance in our lives with fourth and fifth graders. Looking at what we do in our lives and if there is balance between media and in-person time. Kindergarten through third grade have been working on the skills and behaviors to be good Digital Citizens. We will continue to discuss Digital Citizenship in November. Please talk to your children about the safe behaviors they understand while they are on any devices connected to the Internet. Encourage your second through fifth graders to practice keyboarding on Typing Agent, using the home row properly. Please contact me if you have any questions.
