Mr. Anderson's Message
Happy Easter!
I hope you all had a wonderful week for Spring Break, whether you stayed in town or travelled, we are excited to see you back at school tomorrow!
There are some wonderful highlights in this Smore Parent newsletter for you to sit back and smile with pride as our students, teachers, and community works together to create succesful citizens!
Please note that report cards went home with your children the Friday before break. The fourth marking period is a critical time to hone in on specific goals and growth for your child. Always feel free to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions and continue to challenge your student to grow and be proud of his/her accomplishments.
We will be having a collection jug in the main office this coming week for folks to put their change in to raise money for Tyrtle Beach! Tyrtle Beach has been a huge fundraiser and supporter of our kids and community for over 20 years! Please feel free to send in change with your child to drop in the jug and support this wonderful non-profit supporter of our region!

Elementary Band Recruitment!
ATTENTION 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS!
Recruitment for next year’s BEGINNING BAND will be starting soon! It is never too late to sign up for an instrument and enjoy the benefits of the performing arts!
YOUR CHILD is invited to play in the Campbell-Savona Elementary band next year!!
Please check your emails next week for a special
Music Department announcement on the process
of instrument recruitment and how to get involved!
Start thinking what instrument your child would like to play! Better yet, ask them what instrument they would like to play. 3rd and 4th grade students are learning the instruments of the band right now in General Music.
I DO NOT WANT ANYBODY TO MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!!
In the coming weeks, information will be given about:
• Learn the role music plays in every child’s development.
• Discover the opportunities available in the band program.
• Find out the expectations of participation.
• Learn about selecting and securing an instrument.
• Learn how parents and guardians can best support their child’s musical interests.
• Meet and get to know the band teacher.
Questions or concerns? Please email or call!
I look forward to working with you in your child’s musical development.

Excused Vs. Unexcused Absences
If you child is going to be absent, please remember to call the school to report the reason for the absence. Also, let us know if there is anything happening that we can help with to help prevent your child from missing school!
Based on New York State Dept. of Education and our Board of Education Policy on attendance, the following procedures are in place here at CS:
- An automated phone call, text, or email is sent around 10:00 am daily to notify parents of unexcused or unreported absences. If you have already reported the absence, you will not receive that call. This notification is a reminder to call the school to report the reason for your child's absence.
- Attendance and Tardy letters get sent home to inform you when your child is absent or tardy. These are sent after every 5 absences or tardies.
- If you child is absent for more than 6 consecutive days, they must present a note from the physician upon return to state that they are able to return to school.
- If a child is absent more than 10% of the school year, they are considered chronically absent. Based on research, this puts the child at risk for academic and/or social emotional difficulty at school.
Below are the definitions of excused vs. unexcused absences as they are defined in the Campbell Savona Board of Education Policy:
Excused: Any absence, tardiness, or early departure for which the pupil has a valid school approved excuse. (e.g. personal illness, illness or death in the family, religious observance, quarantine, required court appearances, attendance at health clinics or other medical visits, approved college visits, military obligations, absences approved in advance by the Principal, and other reasons as may be approved by the Commissioner of Education, including, but not limited to, absences due to circumstances related to homelessness.) School sponsored activities are also excused absences (field trip, assembly, music lesson, etc.)
Unexcused: Any absence, tardiness or early departure for which the pupil has no valid school approved excuse. (e.g. shopping trips, family vacation, oversleeping, skipping class, hunting, babysitting, hair appointment, and any other absence that is not excused.)
