CATCH

Making Healthy Choices the Easy Way

What is CATCH?

CATCH stands for Coordinated Approach to Child Health. The idea is to use the child's community to create a healthy structure for children to flourish in. The program's goal is promote a healthy lifestyle in the lunchroom, the classroom, the gym, and finally in the child's home. We will do this by introducing healthy food options and encouraging daily physical activity.

My Role as an Educator

  • Our role is to educate and be role models for living a healthy lifestyle. For example, we can choose to drink water instead of a sweetened beverages. The "Kick the Can" challenge is a great example of modeling a healthy lifestyle!
  • Use CATCH language in your classroom. You can embed healthy lifestyle choices in your day to day lessons. Here is an example of how do it that with fractions! http://mathforum.org/varnelle/knum3.html
  • Utilize the outdoor classroom! Contact Jaimie Davis (jaimie.davis@austin.utexas.edu) for more resources and lesson ideas.

  • Encourage parents to pack snacks that are healthy daily for their kiddos!

***Please encourage your students to eat breakfast in the cafeteria this month.

Ms. Robin in the cafeteria says, " Many hot options available daily, along with variety of fruit. This is a great way to start your day off right! Breakfast doors open at 7:20am so come on in! Running late? No worries, I write passes to those who miss the first bell.”

The grade level that eats the most number of breakfast meals at school gets decorated tables at lunch. Mrs. Robinson will announce who won at the end of the week!!!

Below are just SOME of the delightful breakfast options that are offered daily!
