NEW! Parent Volunteers Needed for 8th Grade Promotion
Have you ever wondered what middle school promotion looks like? Did you want to prepare ahead of time and perhaps get a sneak peek at how it is set up, where you might want to sit or even park? Well, parents of 6th and 7th graders, here's your chance. We need volunteers to help out during the 8th grade promotion on Friday, June 18th. Spots are limited. First come, first serve.

UPDATED! 8th Grade Promotion and 8th Grade Fun Day
This will be a traditional format with an audience and students crossing the stage to receive their certificate. We will be on the field and the event is for every 8th grader (both in-person and virtual learners).
- Begins at 9:00 AM on June 18th. Finished by 10:30 AM.
- Students are expected to be at school by 8:30 to report to their homeroom class where they will wait before coming to the field. Parents will report directly to the field. Gates will open at 8:00 AM.
- Recommended attire for students - this is an event to celebrate the transition to high school. Students should dress suitably for the event and the weather. Please keep in mind that it is morning and on the field, so will be chilly. Only flat shoes or very low heels are recommended as students will cross grass and walk up and down the stage steps.
Since the promotion is occurring on school campus, face coverings are required. Students with medical/sensory/cognitive/behavioral exemptions (with a doctor's note) are not required to wear a mask, but are strongly encouraged to utilize a face shield if possible.
We highly suggest families carpool or walk to school as we expect a lot of traffic. Be sure to give yourself extra time.
Thursday, June 17 is an 8th grade fun day from 8:30-2:05 on campus for all 8th graders. The time on campus will include a practice for promotion, so we encourage the students to attend. We have some great activities like kickball, bingo, and crafts. Students will also have opportunity to sign yearbooks. FREE Pizza Lunch and Ice Cream Treat.
NEW! Attention 8th Graders Heading to Westview
The first two weeks after school ends are a no-contact period for our coaches, but current runners will be there to lead. Come out to practice to get a head start in high school sports and make connections with new and current students.

NEW! MVMS Robotics - Purple F.E.A.R (3712)
This year has been a challenging year, nonetheless, and special recognition should be given out to our parent volunteers who kept our continuing FTC Robotics Members competing through the pandemic for the 2020/2021 season. There were many unknowns for this team as to how they would even compete against others. Hours and hours of volunteer time were credited to the parent volunteers and the team did well despite these challenges. The team advanced to regionals and in the REMOTE qualifier won the “Think Award” for their Engineering Notebook and 4th place for Robot performance. It was a tough season to do this remotely, but Thomas F., Breanna T., Hudson K., Tyler M., Alex B., and Daniel Y. kept the team alive and represented MVMS well. Special kudos to Bruce Meagher and Paul Fernandez who volunteered their time to support these students, and to the Battikha and Kim families for hosting the robot fields and games. Purple F.E.A.R. would not have succeeded without you!

NEW! Eagle Shout Outs
This week we are celebrating the final Shout Outs of the 20-21 school year! Congratulations to all of the students and staff who earned a Shout Out this year - we appreciate you!
NEW! MVMS Students' Artwork featured at the Museum of Photographic Arts
Mrs. Mahlow’s art students, Cassidy Ritter (stop motion animation), Zoey Lestyk (photo collage) and Sophia Sands (photography) were chosen by the Museum of Photographic Arts to have their artwork displayed at the museum during the Youth Exhibition. Out of the 566 entries, only 56 San Diego K-12th graders were chosen. The student exhibit is on view May 22, 2021-February 6, 2022 at the Balboa Park museum. You can also see Cassidy’s stop motion animation video here.
