SLMS Titan News
Week #29 - March 29, 2021
Greetings SLMS Parents and Guardians,
Here we are, starting the final grading period of the 2020-21 school year. We have come so far and have had so many wonderful experiences together this year. But it is not over yet! On Monday, March 29, there will be some students new to F2F learning, and we encourage those students and their parents to review the item below related to F2F expectations and safety.
Also in this edition is information about RankOne going down briefly, which affects students interested in soccer. Read about Teen Book Con, which is occurring on April 3 and 10, as well. And parents of current 6th graders, please work with our clinic to ensure those immunizations are updated for 7th grade!
April is Autism Awareness Month and the puzzle piece ribbon is the universal symbol for autism awareness. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States affecting 1 in 45 school-aged children. Autism is the primary disability of students in Fort Bend receiving special education services.
Show Your Support:
- Wear Blue on Thursday, April 1– District-wide Turn It Blue day (Online students, wear blue, too!)
- Have a conversation with your child about how to show empathy and compassion towards those that are different
What can you do?
- Educate your children about autism and increase awareness of this developmental disability
- Empower your children to make a positive contribution to the lives of others through kindness and tolerance
- Enable your children to make a difference, take action and become positive role models for other children.
Early Detection
While every child develops differently, we know that early treatment improves outcomes, often dramatically.

RankOne Electronic Forms Offline Tuesday, March 30 - Interested in Soccer? Read this NOW!
From FBISD Athletics: Rank One Electronic Forms will go off-line at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 30. This means that any athlete wanting to tryout and participate in Soccer, will need to have all paperwork submitted on-line before that time. Our new physical acceptance for the 2021-22 School Year, will begin on April 1. We have to take the forms off-line Tuesday night so that we can update some forms and also promote the students in Rank One in preparation for it going back on-line for the new school year next Thursday morning.
Teen Book Con is April 3 and 10
If you have middle or high school kids who love to read or if you enjoy reading Young Adult books, then you will want to check out this virtual convention. We will have panels with various authors and many fun activities. Please go to https://www.teenbookcon.org/ for more information and registration.
Immunization Reminders for Current Sixth Graders (Online or F2F)
Your sixth-grade child did or will receive the Tdap and the Meningitis vaccines at their 11-year-old check-up. If they have had these vaccines, please provide proof of this to the clinic when your child gets them. These are the required shots for 7th grade and providing them as soon as you get them will keep your child compliant! You may email it to julie.cutaia@fortbendisd.com or fax it to (281) 327-3091.
Our experience has been that some parents wait until the last possible minute to be in compliance with these immunization requirements. Please help us help your child be ready for next year, as it will approach faster than you think!
Reporting a Positive Case of COVID-19 or Exposure to a Positive Case
To ensure the safety of all staff and students, it is critical that families report all positive cases of COVID-19, or exposures to a positive case of COVID-19, immediately. If your student tests positive for COVID-19 or is exposed to a positive COVID-19 case, please notify the District by reporting within the Daily Wellness Screener in Skyward Family Access.
Attendance Information for Parents
Parent notes are required for all absences within five days from the absence date. Notes must include full student name as well as the reason for the absence (including technical difficulties). If a student misses a synchronous engagement, they are counted absent. Please email all absence notes to AttendanceSLMS@fortbendisd.com. Contact our attendance clerk, Mrs. LaVergne, at (281) 634-3089 if you have questions.
