NSLM Open Late

May 27, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.


Open Late concerts are back! Bring your family, your picnic blankets, and your dancing shoes. These free concerts on the lawn include live music and kids activities, as well as beer and wine available for purchase. And, the Museum will be open free of charge, so come see our newest exhibition! April's concert is Land Trust of Virginia Night with area jazz singer Danielle Westphal & Company. Carriage Day

Don't miss our first ever Carriage Day, a free community and family event featuring carriages of all shapes, sizes, and eras. Carriage Day will host over twenty historic and refurbished carriages from the Piedmont Driving Club displayed across the grounds of the NSLM from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This exciting event includes


  • Two recently refurbished carriages from Colonial Williamsburg
  • Morning and afternoon walking tours
  • Keynote talk with Paul Bennett, Director of Coach and Livestock at Colonial Williamsburg
  • A 'drive-by' in the front circle at NSLM
  • Kids activities

The French Horse from Géricault to Picasso: Works from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

On view until July 31, 2016


The exhibition was organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) from its collections including the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. More than 40 major paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by artists as varied as Pablo Picasso, Antoine- Louis Barye, Edgar Degas, and Théodore Géricault represent every major movement in French art from Romanticism to Fauvism.
