Sydenham PS
February, 2021
Dear Sydenham Families,
This February brings change to our school community as Ms. Lendrum moves on to become the Principal at Cataraqui Woods Elementary School and we welcome Ms. Dawn Diamond to our three schools. We cannot thank Ms. Lendrum enough for the caring, passionate work she has done in our three schools over the past eleven (eleven!!) years that she has been our Vice Principal and Principal. We wish Ms. Lendrum all the best at her new school and look forward to getting to know Ms. Diamond who brings her musical talents, enthusiasm, and passion for supporting students to our community.
Term 1 report Cards and Kindergarten Communication of Learning will be sent home with students on Wednesday, February 17. Term 1 encompasses the time from the first day of school in September to the end of January.
It is important to note that this period of learning reflects learning that has occurred in a modified learning environment as required by the provincial public health guidelines, including our most recent remote learning period. As a result, the rate of progress and achievement in this report may differ from previous years due to the on-going impact of Covid-19 on student learning. On-going communication with your student's educators will provide additional information pertaining to student progress this term.
Our groundhog has not seen his shadow today, so here's to an early spring!! Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education.
A message from Mrs. Diamond
Thank you so much for the warm welcome into your school and community! It was lovely to attend the School Advisory Council with such an involved community. We can't thank you enough for all the work you do for our students. I am so pleased and excited to be joining the Sydenham family. Walking around the school, I have been in awe of the rich history, beautiful limestone, and the fun, engaging classrooms.
Coming from Joyceville P.S./Glenburnie P.S., I have a love for the small quaint schools where community is so very important. My background is in the arts and art-integrated learning, specifically I'm a musician... with dramatic flair. I've taught primary/junior/intermediate, along with both LEAP and Challenge, and have been a strong advocate of arts education with a passion for student leadership and voice. Most importantly, I work with joy (I laugh a lot... you may hear me time to time), gratitude and connection - every single day.
I can't wait to become part of the learning at Sydenham. I'm excited to be part of seeing your children grow and learn. If you can, please drop me an e-mail and tell me about your child, what you love about the school and what you wish for while your child attends Sydenham.
Please don't hesitate to reach out any time,
all the best,
Mrs. Dawn Diamond

Reminders
Please label all winter wear including boots as it is easy to mix up similar looking gear and easy to lose those extra mitts!
Please send extra masks during the cold weather months as masks get damp when worn outside.
Please send a re-fillable water bottle with students everyday. Our water fountains have been dismantled due to Covid protocol but we do have water bottle filling stations.
