Brian Lawless
I’m Brian Lawless and I am a native Lexingtonian and a 2006 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar. I was born in the 80’s, so that makes me “super old” to most high schoolers. I attended DePauw University in Indiana and studied Economics and Spanish.
After bouncing around the west coast for a year in Portland, I have spent the last 5 years in Lexington. I currently help out as the Dunbar JV Soccer Assistant Coach and work out at Alltech, Inc. in Nicholasville. I am a big fan of techno music and believe cats are better than dogs -- no doubt about it.
Finally, I love being a Young Life leader because it had a profound impact on my own life personally -- it’s how I first became a Christian in high school -- and I believe in the awesome ways the ministry can change kids lives forever.
Jamie Lewis
I’m Jamie Lewis and I have been an attendee of First Alliance Church since 2004. I grew up in Wilmore, Kentucky, and graduated from West Jessamine High School in 2013. I am now studying Computer Science with Minors in Design and Math at UK, and plan to graduate May of 2017.
With my dad being on Young Life Staff, I grew up around this awesome ministry. The first time I heard the gospel was in a clear, relatable way from my father while he was delivering a club talk at a Young Life Family Camp called Trail West. From the time I was born to when I was in middle school, the folks that I looked up to most were Young Life leaders. Even though Young Life wasn’t at West Jessamine and my dad was no longer on staff by the time I entered college, I still had a desire to be apart of this awesome ministry. Freshman year, Kevin Warnick (my leader for Young Life College at UK) lead the bible study I was in, and trained me to become a Young Life leader.
I was placed as a leader at Dunbar on Valentine’s Day of 2014. I am an assistant coach for Dunbar’s robotics team Planetary Drive, and I also help out with STLP. I love getting to befriend, and be friends with the students at Dunbar. At club, I am the guy that knows how to play the guitar (but if you have a kid who would be up for it, I would love nothing more than to have a student lead music). I am so fortunate to get to lead with 5 of my best friends. There is hardly a Sunday night that I would rather be doing anything other than going to campaigners with them, and having a team meeting with them either at Mama Lawless’ house when she hosts us, or in the back of my car: The Mini Mini.
Carly Bonner
Hi there! I’m Carly Bonner, a sophomore at UK and a Special Education major. I grew up in Columbus, OH and came to UK my freshman year. I have been leading Young Life at Dunbar for the past year and have loved every minute. You (parents) have such great kids and it is so fun to be a part of their lives!
I got involved with Young Life as a sophomore in high school. Young Life was pretty big at my school and I had friends that were involved that invited me into their events. That year I went to a Young Life fall weekend and that’s where my relationship with the Lord began. Since then, I stayed involved throughout high school and decided my freshman year of college I wanted to lead.
For me, Young Life was an incredible outlet in high school to learn more about who Jesus is and explore what life with Him looks like. I am so thankful for how the Lord has used this ministry to make my life better and how He is doing the same thing now for kids at Dunbar.
Meredith Dill
Hi! I’m Meredith, but most people just call me Mere. I love cats, school supplies, and Disney World. I was born and raised in Lexington and went to Henry Clay for high school. I am now in grad school at UK getting my Masters in Teaching. I’m really excited to one day be a high school English teacher – I think I’m starting to like high schoolers better than people my own age.
I got involved with Young Life when I was a sophomore at Henry Clay. My leader, Lucianne, made me feel so valued and loved but also taught me that Jesus loved me way more than she did. I went to Young Life camp the summer after my sophomore year and that’s where I gave my life to Christ. Young Life played a sweet and important role in my life throughout the rest of high school.
I have been a Young Life leader at Dunbar for just over a year and have loved every second of it. The kids and the other leaders on this team make leading an absolute joy. I feel so thankful that God placed me here and allows me to do something so special with five of my best friends. We hope that by knowing us, kids will also know Jesus.
Jimmy Le
Hello! I’m Jimmy Le, and I am a sophomore at the University of Kentucky. I love having fun, making people laugh, and I’m also the best Young Life leader at Dunbar. Before my days at UK and being a Young Life leader, I went to high school at Henry Clay. At Henry Clay, I played on the football team for all four years, and was also super involved in our school’s student section. I would dress up as a referee to our basketball games and yell really loudly in support of the team. I was a pretty outgoing and talkative kid in high school, even to a fault at times, and I got into plenty of silly antics to mess with my teachers and friends in class. I felt like I was definitely the whole package in high school; I had a ton of friends, everyone loved me, and I was getting good grades and doing well in school.
I went to Young Life camp the summer after my junior year, and I had the best week of my life at Timberwolf Lake in Michigan. It was there that I truly started understanding the love of Jesus and what kind of life He offers us. By the time I had graduated, I decided that Young Life was such an important thing to me, that I wanted to become a leader and share the message of Jesus that so deeply influenced me. Even during my first semester at UK, before I started going through training to become a leader, I was still unsure about my ability and strength to lead young students to Christ. But God has a way of giving us such great confidence and strength in Him, and after 14 months of leading Young Life at Dunbar, I can easily say that becoming a Young Life leader was the greatest decision I’ve ever made. The ways that I’ve seen God move in the lives of our friends at Dunbar, and in my own life, have been truly incredible. As a team of leaders at Dunbar, we are so glad that we get to know these students.
Jenna Blodgett
Hi! My name is Jenna Blodgett. I’m 20 years old, and a sophomore at the University of Kentucky. I was born and raised in a western suburb of Chicago. I am studying to be an elementary education teacher!
I got involved with YoungLife last year when I met my best friend at UK who is a leader at Lexington Christian Academy. After watching her lead and impact the lives of so many kids, I knew that YoungLife was something special and I had to be apart of it.
Over the last year, this community has changed my heart and made the best version of myself I’ve ever known. I was baptized at Southland Christian Church in December of 2015 and placed at PLD in February of 2016. It has been truly amazing to be apart of this team and to spend time with Dunbar kids all while helping each other grow in our relationships with Jesus.
