The Amazing Squid
By: Danny Catalfumo
Introduction
What is 1,000 pounds and are the fastest swimming invertebrate? A squid is one of many animals that lives in the Great Barrier Reef. This interesting organism has a beautiful habitat, a delicious diet, and unique appearance.
Habitat
Splash! Splash! This fantastic creature lives in one of the largest coral reefs ever and is a great habitat for a squid. The first location and photograph of a giant squid was in Japan. The squid is known to live in the deep waters of Australia or the Great Barrier Reef. Different species of squid live at different depths. This invertebrate is mostly found in ‘epipelagic’ and the ‘mesopelagic’ zones, and those two zones are the deepest zones. This fantastic swimmer is found in the coastal and oceanic waters near Australia. The giant squid lives in cooler waters near Australia, Newfoundland, New Zealand, and Norway. The colossal squid is found along southern parts of New Zealand, South America, Antarctica, and some in Africa. The vampire squid lives in warmer waters and more tropical regions. This invertebrate has a very beautiful habitat in the Great Barrier Reef.
Diet
This Australian mollusk eats a variety of different things and they are all very delicious. Two out of ten tentacles are feeding tentacles. The giant squid eats medium-sized fish, and if there are no fish available they eat smaller squid species. A type of squid also eats large fish. The Humboldt squid eats krill and smaller fish. The vampire squid eats small-sized invertebrates. The flying squid eats similar to the Humboldt squid. Some mollusks eat fish, shrimp, and other squid. The squid uses their two slender-like tentacles to bring in the food to its beak-like mouth. The two tentacles are larger and are the feeding tentacles. These tentacles help food to get to their mouth. This fantastic organism has a lot of delicious things to eat.
Appearance
Conclusion
Without a doubt, the squid has a beautiful habitat, a delicious diet, and an unique appearance. The squid could attack or eat a small whale. Definitely, the squid is one amazing creature.

Barbecues
They also do a lot of barbecues, the most common barbecues are chops and sausage. Most barbecues are found mostly on beaches, when camping, and caravan parks. Barbecued chops is chicken barbecued and has barbecue sauce on it (with bones).
Australian Mealtimes
At breakfast they usually have cereal, toast, fruit with tea, coffee, or juice. In colder areas they eat cooked porridge or bacon and eggs for breakfast. Vegemite is great on toast.
Take Away-Foods
Australians love fast food. There are a lot of Asian food restaurants in Australian cities. Fast food restaurants serve hamburgers, fried chicken, kebabs, and fish and chips.
Barbecued Chops Recipe
Ingredients:
Kosher salt
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
4 8 -to-10-ounce bone-in pork loin chops, trimmed of excess fat
1/2 cup bourbon or apple cider
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced peeled ginger
1 medium onion, cut into 1/2-inch-thick rounds
2 medium beefsteak tomatoes, halved crosswise
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Recipe:
Prepare a grill for indirect heat: For gas, preheat to medium high, then turn off the burners on one side and turn the other burners to medium low. For charcoal, once the coals ash over, push them to one side.
Whisk 1/4 cup salt, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 3 cups warm water in a large bowl. Add the pork and soak 10 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the bourbon, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar, the garlic and ginger in an ovenproof saucepan. Put on the grill over direct heat; bring to a boil, then remove from the grill.
Grill the onion and tomatoes over direct heat until charred, about 3 minutes per side for the tomato and 4 to 5 minutes per side for the onion. Add to the saucepan, then return the pan to the grill and cook until the sauce is thickened, about 15 more minutes.
Remove the chops from the brine; pat dry. Brush with the vegetable oil and grill over direct heat, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to the cooler side of the grill and cook 3 to 4 more minutes per side, brushing with the sauce. Serve with the remaining sauce and vegetables.
