Of Studies and Of Great Place
Sir Francis Bacon
Of Studies
"Histories make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend."
I chose this quote because it reflects what is true. When I see that it says "Histories make men wise..", I can confirm that this is true. History educates us and teaches us about the past so we can learn from our mistakes.
Of Studies
"Read not to contradict, nor to believe, but to weigh and consider. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested."
We should read, not because we have to, but because we want to learn more. There are different types of books: Some we have to read, some we enjoy and read for pleasure, and some we read to learn more and will re-read to gain new information and learn even more than the first time.
