What's Going on in ELA + SS
Today in SS we began our month-long unit on government. The following vocabulary words will be helpful in students' understanding of the unit:
- Government
- Democracy
- Constitution
- Law
- Checks & Balances
- Executive Branch
- Legislative Branch
- Judicial Branch
- Rights
- Responsibilities
- Compromise
As a reminder, students who wish to take the Map Skills quiz again will have the opportunity to do so on Thursday, September 1st. Study materials were sent home yesterday and can be found in your child's homework folder.
What's Going on in Math + Science
Our math class has been learning how to use and represent whole numbers through the millions place value. We will also be working on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. You can expect to see homework that provides practice with naming numbers in different ways, as well as rounding and estimating greater numbers. Here is a sample of how your child will be taught to write numbers in different forms.

We also began graphing our fact fluency in our addition/subtraction facts. Your child may log in to Reflex to practice his/her facts at home. Your child’s log in information can be found on the inside of his/her planner.
In science, we have started our discussion about who is a scientist. Students are excited to begin their journey as a scientist! Thank you in advance to those who have already sent in an oversized button down for your child to use during our science experiments. We will be starting our science experiments next week. Please try to provide your child with his/her button down by this coming Tuesday.
