Dear Parents,
Our second grading period is officially over. Teachers have reported grades to administration, and report cards will be processed and sent home on Thursday, January, 18th. Please keep in mind the grades on this current report card represent your child’s progress from October 23rd to December 21st.
As a reminder, each category is scored 1-4.
1-child exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance
2-child exhibits skill /concept with minimal guidance
3-child exhibits mastery of skill/concept (needs NO guidance)
4-child exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation
At this time of the school year, most children continue to require at least some degree of guidance from the teacher on skills and concepts. Therefore, a score of a 2 is quite reasonable to expect in areas where your child is progressing towards becoming independent. 2 is a score that indicates your child is on-track to becoming successful with that skill or concept. By the end of the year, we should see 2's growing into 3’s.
There may be some categories where a 1 is indicated. This means that your child is consistently needing direct guidance on that concept. A 1 can also mean that the topic was recently introduced, and the student is not expected to be beyond that level yet.
A few 1's are not an indicator or warning of grade-level failure. These areas specify where more time and energy must be spent in order to help your child reach their goals by the end of the year.
If your child has consistently exhibited mastery of a 2nd grade TEK and is beyond needing guidance, these areas will be scored with a 3. It is important to keep in mind that the child must be consistently and independently exhibiting mastery of the skill (without guidance) to get a 3.
To get a 4 in any skill or concept your child must consistently exhibit understanding beyond the grade level expectation. The keywords are "consistently" and "beyond."
Some areas on the report card may be blacked out. This is intentional because at this point in the year, we have not had a chance to teach or assess these skills, and they will be addressed in the future.
