Lynx Lane Campus Celebrates American Founders' Month

The Month of September 2018 will mark the first annual observance of "American Founders". American Founders' month offers the opportunity for students to participate in activities related to the nation's founding fathers, who were instrumental in crafting historical documents that provide for individual liberty and representative government.

Alexander Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton was born in the British West Indies in 1755. "A member of the Continental Congress, an author of the Federalist Papers, a champion of the Constitution and the first secretary of the Treasury, where he helped found the first national bank, the U.S. Mint and a tax collection bureau that would later become the U.S. Coast Guard. Troubled by personal and political scandals in his later years, Hamilton was shot and killed in one of history’s most infamous duels by one of his fiercest rivals, the then Vice President Aaron Burr, in July 1804"

OSS Celebrates "Celebrate Freedom Week" with Guest Speaker-Historian J.D Sutton

On Thursday, historian J.D. Sutton spoke to our students about the Declaration of Independence and the basic ideas of constitutional government. Mr. Sutton is an actor and playwright who for the past 25 years has been researching, and performing as, Thomas Jefferson. His solo play about Thomas Jefferson, Twilight at Monticello, has been presented off-Broadway and at venues throughout "the original 13", including Philadelphia's historic Carpenters' Hall. An hour-long version, sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council, has been performed at libraries and historic societies throughout the state. His half-hour A Brief Encounter with Thomas Jefferson was selected for FHC’s 30th anniversary Chautauqua tour of eight Florida communities.

Ms. Stutt's 6th Grade Class Puts a Twist on Folk Tales

Ms. Stutt's 6th graders posted their folktale projects in the link found below. Each student made a video retelling their choice of a myth, fable, tall tale, or fairy tale. Some of the students acted out their stories, some designed puppets, some illustrated the tales, but all of the videos were very creative. We are so proud of their hard work and creativity, keep up the great work Orcas!
