Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we continue the holiday season I am excited to share joyful updates from our school community. Our 6th-grade students recently embarked on an educational field trip to the National Science Museum in Richmond, immersing themselves in the wonders of science and discovery.
In the realm of robotics, our talented team represented us with pride at a tournament in Delaware. Their hard work and dedication showcased the impressive capabilities of our students in the field of technology and innovation.
Additionally, our staff recently enjoyed a bonding trip to the Washington Commanders game, fostering camaraderie and teamwork that ultimately contributes to a positive school environment.
Basketball season is underway and we hope to see you at one of our home games. We are also excited for our Winter music concerts which will take place this month.
As we continue to nurture a respectful and positive school culture, I want to emphasize the importance of students showing respect to their teachers and all adults. Following the code of behavior at all times ensures a safe and conducive learning environment for everyone. Your support in reinforcing these values at home is invaluable in shaping responsible and respectful citizens.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in providing a well-rounded and enriching educational experience for our students.
Warm regards,
Rachel Preston
Principal
Understanding Instructional Expectations
Updates on IXL
At our last advisory council meeting, parents shared that some IXL assignments were taking an unusally long time to complete. We worked with teachers and students to identify the issue. IXL is an intuitive program that will continue to generate questions, especially if students answer incorrectly. While teachers may assign a specific skill, if students continue to click next, IXL will continue to generate questions. To address this, we have informed students that the time spent on IXL each night should not exceed 30 minutes. If your child has completed the 30 minutes for that subject and still not mastered the skill, their time spent practicing will be sufficient.

Let's Talk About Attendance!
The holiday season is here! However, we remain committed to high standards of attendance for all students. Please plan trips and vacations around our current holidays to ensure you student does not miss school.
8th grade attendance remains a concern this month. Please take a look at the chronic absenteeism data below and encourage your student to be present each day.
Our goal is to reach 10% or less chronic absenteeism and maintain a rate of 96% or better daily attendance.
You can monitor your child's attendance and tardies by checking ParentVue.
