Back To School, Summer 2021

School Starts August 17!

Welcome back, Warriors! We are excited to begin a new school year on August 17!

Watch for information specific to your school coming from your principals in next 2-3 weeks!

Class placement letters will be emailed near the beginning of August.

Your school will share specific times and details on building calendars for Meet The Teacher and Sneak-A-Peek nights! All families are invited to these fun events, providing students and parents with the opportunity to meet their teachers and see where classrooms are located before the first day of school. Please feel free to bring school supplies with you to Sneak-A-Peek!

All Elementary School Supply Lists are posted on the district website (CLICK HERE) and in our district app under the Resources tab. Supply Lists for Westside Middle School, Westside High School, and West Campus will be provided by individual instructors once classes begin.

  • WMS students are encouraged to have a few notebooks, folders and writing utensils with them to start classes, as well as colored pencils and headphones.

COVID-19 Guidelines for 2021-22

We continue to work closely with the Douglas County Health Department and area medical experts as we plan for the 2021-22 school year and COVID-19 guidelines. We are considering several variables, include vaccine availability to our younger students, current trends in the Omaha metro area, and the new variant of this virus. We will continue to follow the expert advice of the Douglas County Health Department and medical professionals.

With that, please continue to monitor your email and newsletters for specific COVID-19 guidelines as we approach the 2021-22 school year. This is a process we take extremely seriously, and we want to ensure decisions are based on as current information possible, to best serve and protect all students and staff at Westside Community Schools.

If you have questions about vaccines, please work with your pediatrician or family doctor. You may find vaccination information at Douglas County Health Department as well as Children’s Health and Medical Center Omaha.

Westside Community Schools will remain committed to enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols. We will also continue with frequent hand sanitizing and washing and watching our distance the best we can. Parents will continue to be asked to screen their children daily for COVID-19 symptoms and keep them at home if they are ill with this virus or any other sickness.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement.

Message From Board of Education President, Doug Krenzer

Greetings, Westside community. I hope you are enjoying the summer, despite our recent severe weather. I have the privilege of serving as Board of Education president this year. It was almost a year ago when we gathered with staff on Phelps Field to begin a year unlike any in our history. The storm clouds that day were perhaps a sign of the difficulties ahead. But our students, staff, and community persevered, despite the constant challenges. On behalf of the entire board, we are excited to safely return to all the things we care so much about throughout the school year: performances, games, dances, and most of all, learning. Please have a safe and relaxing rest of the summer. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Yours in Education,

Doug Krenzer
