We are excited to announce that Kindergarten and Pre-K parents will be allowed to escort their child to class on the first day of school! Please review the information below for more information. In order to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and parents we will follow the procedures below. We understand that this might be a difficult transition for some students. We want to reassure you that we have staff on hand to assist students with the transition.
Pre-K/K Parents Entering the Building - Parents who wish to walk their child to class will enter through the Sunland entrance on the first wing (Except for Ms. Luna's Kindergarten class who will enter on the 2nd wing.) The entrance times are from 7:45 a.m.-8:00 a.m. No parents will be allowed in after 8:00 a.m. Parents will not be allowed to congregate. In order to maintain the safety of our staff and students, we will follow this process:
Parents will walk their student to the classroom door.
Parents will hug their child at the classroom door. No parents will be allowed inside the classroom.
Parents will wish them a good day!
Parents will exit through the door they entered.
Pre-K/K Parents Not Entering the Building - If you are not walking your child into the building, your child will enter through the main entrance. The main entrance will open at 7:30 a.m. for drop off.
PTA will have a Tears and Cheers celebration outside of the Sunland entrance!
Morning Arrival Procedures
We need your help to ensure that we have a safe and smooth arrival!
All students will enter through the main entrance on Lippitt. Morning drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. School starts at 8:00 a.m. We recommend that you drop off your child no later than 7:45 a.m. Students are expected to be in class and ready for instruction at 8:00 a.m. Your child is considered tardy at 8:00 a.m.
Arrival Reminders
1. Lippitt and Sunland are one-way streets before and after school.
2. Parents can drop off in the driveway, or on Lippitt. The lane closest to the school on Lippitt is a through lane (Please do not exit your car). If you would like to get out of your car to assist or walk your student, please park on the opposite side of Lippitt. Do not block driveways or alleys. If you park on the opposite side of Lippitt, you and your student are required to utilize the designated cross walk (orange cones).
3. Please adhere to directions given by campus personnel on duty.
4. Follow all directions on the Arrival Map.
DISMISSAL
We need your help to ensure that we have a safe and smooth dismissal.
Dismissal is at 3:15 p.m. each day. Please ensure your child is picked up no later than 3:20 p.m. If you are late, your child will be taken to the main entrance for pick up. The dismissal locations are as follows:
- Pre-K students and Ms. Dauphin's Kindergarten class will be dismissed at the exterior door of their individual classrooms located on the Sunland side (first wing) of the building.
- Kindergarten students (except Ms. Dauphin) will be dismissed at the exterior entrance on Sunland (first wing). Parents are required to line up behind the blue line on the sidewalk.
- 1st and 2nd Grade students will be dismissed at the exterior door on Sunland (second wing). Parents are required to line up behind the blue line on the sidewalk.
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade students will be dismissed on the Neering side of the building.
ALL GRADE LEVELS WILL UTILIZE PICKUP CARDS DURING DISMISSAL.
Pre-K - 2nd parents will hold the dismissal cards up at the dismissal location.
3rd - 5th parents will put the dismissal card in the window of the vehicle.
Dismissal signs were distributed during meet the teacher. If you did not attend, it will be sent home with your child on the first day.
Dismissal Reminders
1. Lippitt and Sunland are one-way streets before and after school.
For safety and traffic flow, please utilize the cross walks when crossing.
2. Neering - Parents will only line up on the lane closest to the school. Although Neering is a two way street, we will operate dismissal as if it was a one way street. There will be no loading across from the school. When students see their parents car, they will be sent to the loading zone (between the cones near the staff parking lot entrance). Students will load, and cars will move up in the line. We ask that parents not park on the opposite side and walk across the street. This creates an unsafe environment for our staff, parents, and students.
3. Traffic that is heading straight on Lippitt toward Jupiter interferes with traffic that is driving on Lippitt toward Neering. While it is not a one way past the stop sign, we encourage parents heading straight on Lippitt toward Jupiter to turn right on Sunland.
4. Students cannot be picked up, or dropped off in the middle of the street.
5. To prevent traffic from backing up, please do not stop in the middle of the street unless staff, parents, and students are in the crosswalk.
6. Do not block driveways or alleys.
7. Please adhere to directions given by campus personnel on duty.
8. If you are unable to find a parking space, please make one round around the school.
9. For the safety of all, we encourage you not to bring animals on campus during dismissal. If you do, you need to maintain control of your animal and keep your distances from other families and staff.
10. Follow all directions on the Dismissal Map.
11. Parents will need to remain behind the designated areas during dismissal.

ATTENDANCE FORM
The academic success of every student enrolled in Dallas Independent School District is important. Daily school attendance and on-time arrival are critical to this success. By attending school each day, students receive the benefit of teacher-led instruction, peer discussion, building each day’s learning on the previous day’s instruction, participation in a variety of school activities and the opportunity to grow as individuals.
Every year, Dallas ISD asks parents to complete an official attendance notification and truancy pledge. Previously this form has been provided by the campus but, this year, parents can complete this form online. Please click here to complete the required form.
Parents/Guardians can monitor student attendance records via Parent Portal on an ongoing basis.
Did You Know?
Students are more likely to be involved in class, be successful, and stay on track for graduation if they miss fewer than 10 school days.- Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause a student to fall behind in school.
- By 6th grade, amount of absences is one of the three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
- Missing 10%, or about 18 days, of the school year can drastically affect academic success. It may also jeopardize promotion to the next grade level and receiving class credit.
- Students can be chronically absent even if they only miss a day or two of school every few weeks.
Dallas ISD requires a written explanation or note to excuse an absence. It is recommended that students turn in absence notes within three days after returning to school. However, notes may be accepted within the semester in which the absence occurred.
