So many things to be Thankful for!!!!

Kdg and 1st get a visit from the Falls FD

Students were able to hear about Fire Safety, meet FireFighters and see the ins and outs of a Fire Department Ladder Truck! Nobody climbed the ladder, even though Mr. Dulka and Lt. Justice really wanted to give it a try :)

Positive Office Referrals from last month!!

Cuyahoga Falls City Schools utilizes PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) as a way to focus on the positive behaviors and how to change behaviors by using positive reinforcement. This goes hand-in-hand with our code of conduct that provides discipline procedures for negative behaviors. In wanting to help reinforce the positive behaviors students exhibit, Silver Lake Elementary is using a Positive Student Referral System where staff members can refer a student to the principal but for positive reasons.

Congratulations to the Silver Lakers on their Positive Referral to my office!

Top Tigers

Each month (starting in October) two students will be recognized at a Board Meeting for being Top Tigers. Top Tigers are exemplary in their character traits and their effort. What an honor it is to be recognized by your teachers at a Board Meeting. This month, students were recognized by our Specials Team consisting of Mrs. Angelo (PE), Miss Bittner (Art) and Mrs. Miller (Music). Proud of these Silver Laker for all of their Black Tiger Pride!!

Traffic Reminders

Between the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm Overlook Rd, which is at the front of the school, is a one-way street heading south and Millboro Rd, which is at the back of the school, is a one-way street heading north.

If you are dropping of your students and stop in front of a fire hydrant, please be sure to not leave your vehicle. If you want to leave your vehicle, remember to think about safety and not block a hydrant.

Kdg parents dropping off and picking up their students. Avoid the bus area in the back. The bushes to the fence is the area we need to keep clear. The area in front of the field and after the fence is where we ask parents to park.

We Have The Best Custodial Staff!!

I may be a little biased but we have the best two custodians in the district!! No matter if it is Mr. Oscar or Mr. Dan, they are always willing to help and go above and beyond to ensure SLE looks amazing and care for all of our Silver Laker kiddos.

Thank you to Mr. Oscar and Mr. Dan for all you do for our building, staff, and students!!!

Playground Use Outside of School Hours

Before School, we ask that no students be on the playground sets as there is not any supervision outside until the bell rings at 8:30am to allow students into the building.

After school, once students have joined their parents/guardians and are in their care and under their supervision, students may be on the playground sets. Again, this is an issue with supervision and we do not want anything to happen to our little Black Tigers.

Parents with students picking up younger siblings (HS or MS students): please have conversations regarding how they should not be playing on the equipment when our day is still in session. I understand that older students get out earlier but that becomes a disruption to the end of the day here. I appreciate all of you help with this matter.

B.L.A.M.

B.L.A.M. stands for Be Like Aunt Martha and is a challenge to utilize respect and to make a difference in the lives of others. Learn more about B.L.A.M. in a slideshow on the school's website. The main components of B.L.A.M. are 1) Love Unconditionally 2) Smile Daily 3) Never Give Up and 4) Always Do Your Best. The 14th of each month is an opportunity for all to be reminded to make a difference for someone and that differences don't have to be huge but can be seemingly small things that add up to be a big difference. Things like holding a door, or picking up dropped items or even smiling at someone or saying hello.

Silver Lake Staff Spotlight

Meet our 2nd Grade Team

Get to know: Mrs. Catherine Beck

Hi! This is my 33rd year of teaching. I graduated from Bowling Green State University. I also have my Master’s Degree in Reading where I attended Kent State University. I have taught Kindergarten and second grade. An interesting fact is that I taught with Mrs. Hutchinson 25 years ago at DeWitt. I continue to love teaching and learning.

I am married to my amazing husband, Mike of 22 years. He is a fireman for the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Dept. My son, Brandon is 20 years old. He attended Walsh University on a scholarship to play golf. However, this summer, he decided to leave Walsh to pursue becoming a fireman like his father. We are so proud. We also have a daughter, Grace, who is 18 years old. She is a senior at Stow Munroe Falls High School. Grace is a captain of the Girls Varsity Soccer team. We are anxiously waiting for her decision on what she plans to do as well as where she plans to attend college. I love to work out. You can find me walking my neighborhood daily or going to the Natatorium. I also enjoy reading and finding things to refurbish. Someone’s trash is another one’s treasure.

Get to know: Mrs. Sandra Hutchinson

Hi! This is my 29th year of teaching. I graduated from the University of Akron. I also have my Master’s Degree in Developmentally Handicapped where I attended Kent State University. I have taught 4th, 5th, and now 2nd grade. An interesting fact is that I taught with Mrs. Beck 25 years ago at DeWitt when I first started teaching. I continue to love teaching and learning.

I am married to my amazing husband, John of 27 years. He is an Art Teacher at Coventry High School. My son, Will is almost 25 years old. He lives in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he attended college to get a degree in Marine Biology. He currently works for Amazon and Perrysburg Tennis Center as a pro giving lessons. We also have a daughter, Kassie, who is 22 years old. She graduated from Wadsworth High School in 2018. Kassie was recently diagnosed with 16p11.2 deletion syndrome. This is a rare genetic disorder so they are learning more about this daily. She has her struggles, but she is quite an amazing young lady, if I do say so myself.

I enjoy making things on my Cricut and spending time with my family and our cats. I am very blessed both personally and professionally.

Meet our School Social Worker

Get to know: Mrs. Sierra Oden

This is my 9th year as a social worker, and my 2nd year as the Elementary School Social Worker for Silver Lake!

My favorite part of my job is helping students and their families solve problems.

Outside of school:
I absolutely love hiking with my family and our dog on the weekends. The CVNP is our go-to! I have a wanderer’s spirit so traveling is a must in our family and we try to go somewhere new every year. I love playing and watching sports but my favorite is lifting super heavy weights for fun. I want my daughter to know that girls are strong too!
