The EMS Gazette
Updates and Information
Good Afternoon EMS Families!
We just finished up our first 2 weeks of school and it is so exciting to have all of the students back in the building. They bring the energy to the hallways and the classrooms that our teachers thrive on.
As with any new school year, there are always some logistics that take some time to smooth out. Thank you for your patience over the past 2 weeks as we got the school year underway.
We wanted to share some updates and new information for our families.
We Remember!
Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the victims and first responders on this solemn day.

Remember, you will NOT see the bus icon if you use the PowerSchool app on your phone; you must use the computer or a web browser.

Arrival and Dismissal for Car Riders
Arrival:
Our goal is to have a quick and efficient drop-off routine so that families can get to work or their next destination on time. Here are some tips to help with that process:
- Drivers should pull all the way forward to the end of the curb. We have a lot of traffic on Peachblossom Road in front of the school so we are trying to get as many cars as possible in our drop-off loop and out of the street.
- Students should make sure their belongings are ready to go when their ride comes to a stop at the curb so they can exit quickly.
- Students should exit the car on the passenger side next to the curb.
Dismissal:
Our goal is safety in the afternoon;
- We ask all family members to stay in their car.
- If a student needs to cross the parking lot or the street, they should do so at the crosswalk or by the crossing guard.
- Drivers should drive all the way to the end of the curb so that we can get as many cars in our car-rider loop as possible.
- Students should wait at the end of the building near the 8th-grade hallway, not at the front door area. Remember, we want drivers to pull ahead.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
School Lunches
School lunches are free of charge at this point but families should complete the free and reduced meals application form. This form is critical to several funding sources for our county. Copies of the form in English and Spanish are included below. If you would like a paper copy, please call the school and we will send one home with your student.

Fall MCAP Testing
As part of continued COVID-19 recovery efforts, the Maryland State Department of Education is conducting the Early Fall Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) for students currently enrolled in grades 6-8. The results of these assessments will help educators better understand student needs as we move forward in the 2021-2022 school year.
Students in grades 7 and 8 will take two assessments, one in English Language Arts (ELA) and one in Mathematics. While students in grade 6 will take three assessments, English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. All assessments are abbreviated versions of the MCAP assessments that are typically administered each spring. The Mathematics assessment consists of two 30 minute sections, the ELA assessment is two 70 minute sections and the Science assessment is one 60 minute section. The purpose of the Early Fall Test Administration is to assess students on standards and skills from their previous grade level. Therefore, students currently in grade 7 will complete the grade 6 ELA and Mathematics MCAP this fall.
Easton Middle School will be doing our first round of testing next week:
- 8th Grade Math - 9/21
- 6th Grade Math - 9/22
- 7th Grade Math - 9/23
- 6th Grade Science - 9/24
Our testing for English Language Arts will be in October. We will share those dates in another newsletter.
Students participating in the APEX blended virtual program will be contacted about fall testing.
Please see the attached flyer from the Maryland State Department of Education that includes more information on MCAP.
Friday Night Under the Lights!
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
Easton High School Football is back! If your student wants to attend a football game, please remember that he/she must be accompanied by an adult. The cost for admission is $2.00 and no bookbags are allowed in the stadium.
Don't Forget to Charge!
This is just a reminder that students should be charging their devices every night. Make it part of your evening routine. The Ipads and computers will be used throughout the day and teachers have minimal outlets in their room for charging.
SEE YOU ON MONDAY EMS PANTHERS!
