Beck Junior High Weekly Update
September 22, 2020
End of the 6 Weeks
We are already wrapping up the end of the first six weeks. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we figure this whole thing out!
- Students and parents should be checking HAC for the most updated grades. We encourage students to reach out to individual teachers about any concerns with grades before Friday. Here is the link to HAC in order to check grades.
- There is no school Friday, September 25th!
- On Monday, we will welcome back a group of students who are returning to Face to Face instruction from KVA. These students should plan on going to the cafeteria when they enter the building on Monday- we will have new schedules, IDs, explain the hallway, arrival and dismissal procedures, and APs will review discipline and behavior expectations.
If you have questions about either KVA or F2F, please do not hesitate to reach out to your grade level AP or counselor.

Free Breakfast and Lunch beginning September 21st
Students attending on-campus instruction are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at no cost beginning Sept. 21.
Parents may add funds to their student’s meal account for a la carte purchases and in preparation for when the USDA waiver ends in their student’s Pay N’ Go Account.
Once this waiver expires, the District will switch back to the School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Free and reduced meal applications must still be submitted for the 2020-2021 school year to determine benefits after the waiver ends. Visit schoolcafe.com/KatyISD to apply online.

KVA students who have appointments during the school day? Please email student's name, time of appointment and reason for absence. Follow up by emailing doctor's note.
All students- Compulsory Attendance Notifications from Katy ISD Police will begin to go out starting September 21, 2020. KVA and in person students are required to attend every class period every day to avoid truancy issues. If your student has three or more unexcused absences, he/she will receive a letter.
From the Attendance Clerk:
I am diligently working to return calls and emails throughout the day. Unfortunately, due to higher than normal attendance issues with COVID, it might take up to 48 hours before a phone call or email is returned and the attendance issue is resolved. Student attendance can always be seen in the Home Access Center.

This organization is a fun way for 6th graders to get involved and make some new friends. We would love to have your student participate! As recognized school leaders, Pep Squad members are expected to be positive role models at school and in their community.
Please review the following requirements with your child. Your child will be expected to attend the practice clinic and the five scheduled games. Device Clarification
If a student is face to face and was not issued a device through Katy ISD, we are asking those students to consider bringing a personal device from home if they are comfortable with that. This can be a phone, iPad, Chromebook or laptop. If students do not have a device to bring, or do not want to bring one, that is not a problem!
Safety Concerns
Non-Compliance with Mask Requirement
Katy ISD is offering parents the option of virtual or in-person instruction. Students who do not comply with safety protocols in place for in-person instruction will be transitioned to Katy Virtual Academy for the duration of the grading period. KVA students participating in in-person school related activities before and after the start of the instructional day must also follow the same safety protocols. Students who do not wear masks/face coverings as required by District safety protocols will not be allowed to participate in school related activities. Should a student have a medical condition that would preclude him/her from wearing a mask, the parent is requested to provide the campus nurse documentation from their medical provider.
Arrival/Dismissal
Arrival
Car riders- There are two lines in the large parking lot leading to the gym doors for cars dropping off students. Drivers will watch for guidance from our staff on duty. Students should not be dropped off in the front parking lot.
Bus riders- A staff member will unload students from their bus. Students will walk through the main entrance doors and enter the building.
Walkers and Bicycle riders- As an alternative to waiting in the car rider line each morning and afternoon, students may either walk to school or ride their bikes to campus. We ask that all bike riders use our bike racks and lock their bikes upon arrival. The school is not responsible for theft or damage
The doors will open at 8:30 am. Upon arrival, students will walk straight to their first-period class. While waiting for the doors to open, we ask that students practice social distancing.
We will have all available staff in the hallways guiding the students to their first-period classrooms.
Dismissal
Bike riders- should walk their bikes under covered areas and loading areas. Please be aware of your surroundings and follow all safety and traffic rules. In addition, please follow all request made by school staff on duty, as any request made will be to ensure student safety.
Walkers- Students should exit the nearest door. Please do not walk across traffic in front of the building (bus lanes). Instead, walk along the sidewalk and use cross walks when crossing Mason or Fry.
Bus Riders should exit out the main entrance only when called and load their bus immediately. Beginning 2020-2021 school year all buses will have an upgraded camera system. Students with multiple bus infractions could result in loss of bus riding privileges.
Car Riders should exit through the gym doors. Students should be looking for their vehicle and enter their car only when the car has fully stopped If you need to cross the lane of traffic, please wait for instructions from Mr. T.
