Principal's Message
Sabre Families,
I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the spectacular weather over the past few days! Along with the snow melt, increase in daylight hours, the nice weather has brought an infusion of energy to our community.
Thank you to our Sabre families for completing the returning student registration over the past month. Along with our incoming grade 10 students expected in the fall, SAL will have a strong enrollment and we anticipate an overall increase in numbers for the 2021 - 2022 school year.
Now that we have completed the returning student registration, we will now move to our next step, which we will focus on over the next three weeks before Spring Break, that being course selection. Similar to our Virtual Open House, we will be creative and strive to ensure that parents are informed and have an avenue to ask questions should they arise.
Our current Grade 10 and 11 classes will be starting the course selection process this week. On Thursday and Friday the students will go through the 3 year plan for their graduation and select the appropriate courses on paper. On Monday, March 15, and Tuesday, March 16, students will be completing their course selection in the computer labs. If you would like to go through this process with your child you can access the course selection form here, and to gain understanding of graduation requirements and the course selection process you can access this presentation done by Jeremy Cooper and Kofi Frimpong, two of our Guidance Counsellors. If your student would like to discuss their 3 year plan with an Academic Counsellor, they can check the box on the form and a counsellor will be in touch with them after Spring Break. If you are interested in learning about the requirements to qualify for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship which is awarded for Grade 10, 11, and 12, you can access them here. The link for our 2021 - 2022 Course Handbook can be found below.
Also this week brings us to P/S/T Interviews on March 11 from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. Please book your time slot through the link provided above. Booking code is 9yf3m, bookings open today, and will close by the end of the school day on Wednesday.
On another note and looking at the timeline, this week also brings us to the one year anniversary of our current pandemic. We know that anniversaries of events can have adverse effects and a resulting range of emotions. On a daily basis, our staff are trying to look out for our students and identify those that are struggling or are off their baseline behavior. Similarly from home, please reach out should your child require school supports.
Continuing with our ‘blast from the past’ series, here is the 2019 Staff Video.
Have an excellent week everyone. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.
