Mason Gazette
November 3, 2017
Dear Mason Families,
I hope this message finds you already enjoying your weekend! During our town hall meetings today (11.3), we talked about the importance of being safe on the playground and what caring for others truly means. I was amazed and humbled by some of the responses from our students. We have monthly town hall meetings to talk about the importance of good character and give students the necessary skills they need to be successful beyond the classroom and it is evident by their responses that we as a community are on the right track. Below are some of responses that were shared by students today:
Why is it important to be caring towards others?
1. To make someone else feel better.
2. Helps us to feel good about ourselves.
3. We learn compassion for others and to look beyond our own needs.
4. May inspire others to be caring too.
5. Makes the world a better place.
Thank you once again to everyone in the Mason Community for helping us meet/exceed our Fun Run goal! It was amazing to see all the students relishing in their success Thursday during our Fun Run assembly and their facial expressions while they were taping me to the wall were absolutely priceless. It was truly the highlight of my week and I hope everyone else enjoyed it as well. Specials Thanks to Jeff Somers (PTO President), Katie Batts (PTO Vice President) and the entire Mason PTO for their help! Mason is a great place to learn because of your dedication to excellence.
Have a great weekend,
Roy

NOTES FROM THE MAIN OFFICE
Arrival and dismissal can be a very busy time here at Mason and we want to keep our school as safe as possible. Thank you for your help in making sure our arrival and dismissal rules are followed.
During arrival time: Please allow your students to enter the building on their own if possible. It's a great way to help your child build independence and allows our learners an opportunity to start their school day off on the right foot. Please know that our staff is here to give them any assistance they might need. If you child has anxiety about entering the school by themselves, please let us know so we can work with you and your child on a plan that leaves everyone feeling successful.
During dismissal time: We try to ensure our learners at Mason are learning every minute of the school day and towards the end of the day, before dismissal, teachers are wrapping up their lessons and getting our learners ready to go home. We are asking that students be picked up on the playground unless an early dismissal has been called in ahead of time. Please do not enter the building to wait for your child. This is courtesy that we can't extend to every Mason parent if they asked so we want to be fair and consistent to everyone involved.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

GPPSS Open House 11/12
Please bring a friend to the GPPSS Open House 11/12 from 1-3 p.m.
Word of mouth remains the most powerful marketing tool there is. Please help us invite our friends and neighbors to tour our community schools Sunday, November 12 from 1-3 p.m. Every school will be open with student guided tours and hospitality support from the PTO. This is a wonderful way for current 5th graders to start exploring the middle school in their future, and for 8th graders to visit the high school. It’s also a great time to bring senior citizens in to see the learning taking place in our schools with their support. Please come and bring a friend!
