Information from the 6th Grade Team
ELA
We will begin our Literary Whole-Class Discussions next week. Students are expected to prepare for these discussions on their online days. In-person days from here until Thanksgiving Break will be focused on discussing the short stories they should have read on their online days. There will be no chance to make-up work on their online days. No late work will be accepted. If you would like to know more about these discussions, please read my description in the file below.
Science
This week in science we finished the Earth Layers portion of our Rocks and Minerals unit. The A day kids will take a quiz over the layers on Monday and the B day kids on Tuesday. Study materials will be posted in Google Classroom.
Math
We have finished this week with our Topic 1 Assessment. After looking at the overall grades on this assessment, we are going to change things next week for 6th-grade math. Instead of moving to our next topic, we are going to take a day to work on corrections and review this test and then next Wednesday and Thursday we will be retaking this test in class.
If a student scored an A on the assessment they will be given a project that will be an enrichment activity over fractions and decimals to work on this next week. If a student scores a B they will have the option to retake or to do the enrichment activity.
I will be sending out more information about next week via email Monday.
Have a great Halloween weekend.
Social Studies
The students have begun their unit over the United States. They have been working on a political and physical map of the United States. Group A will have a United States Political Map Test on Wednesday 11/4. Group B will be taking their test on Thursday 11/5. Students need to study their map and/or play United States map games on the computer.
