Welcome Back
2022-2023 School Year
New School Year means New Faces
It is so hard to believe it is August. Where did the summer go? We hope this newsletter finds everyone ready and excited to start a new school year. Along with a new school year, comes new staff. We would like welcome some new employees.
Mrs. Sheila Hobbs is joining the Baxter team for the 2022-2023 School year. She has been an employee in RCS for 26 years. She started her career in this program when it was housed at the Richmond State Hospital. She is the mother of two amazing kids, Phillip, 21, and Hattie, 17. She and her husband, Chris, live on a small farm in Wayne County. She enjoys the mountains, farm life, and sports with her kids. She is excited to be back and work with the families, students, and staff at Baxter.
Secretary:
We want to welcome Mrs. Carrie Debenham to her new role at the front desk. She is replacing Mrs. Jacot as our secretary. Mrs. Debenham has been a paraprofessional for many years in our program. When she is not at work, she enjoys nature, photography, painting, and theatre. She has two adult children, one grandson, and has been married for almost three years. She is a member of the cast The SpongeBob Musical at Richmond Civic Theater this month.
Teachers:
Miss Kaylynn Boyd is excited to join the 2022-2023 team at Baxter and get to know the students, families, and staff. It is her first year teaching. She graduated from Marian University in the spring of 2020. She is a mother to her son, William. She has lived in Wayne County with her boyfriend, Richie. She enjoys reading a good book, cuddling up with her dogs, going on vacations with family, and of course Science! She will be teaching Science and Social Skills for 5th-8th grade.
Let's welcome Aubrey Wildey. She is beginning her 16th year with RCS; during her first 8 years, she taught in grades K-2 and for the last 7 years she has been working with Special Education students in grades K-8. Her current role is the district's non-public teacher of record and master mentor teacher. She provides consultation services to the local private schools and special education support to teachers and students throughout RCS in all grades. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, concerts, and chilling with her cats. She is excited to join the Baxter team as an additional resource for the staff and students.
Paraprofessionals:
Allison Hersey is our new SEL paraprofessional. She will begin work on Monday August 22, 2022. She is very excited to have the opportunity to be at Baxter in this role. She looks forward to getting to know and work with the students, families, and staff this year. She has spent the last four years working at Hibberd in a variety of roles, but truly feels like her calling is to be with us at Baxter. She loves her cats, Larry and Dobby, enjoys random artsy things and loves hanging out with family. She wants everyone to know she is here for them, if you need to vent or a snack. She has your back.
Shawn Wampler joins our team this year in the high school program with Mrs. Gulley. He previously has worked at Wernle, owned a skate shop, and volunteered in several classrooms around the district. His wife, Mindy, is a teacher at Hibberd and his son is a college student. He love Harley Davidsons and custom motorcycles. With that being said, he loves to ride as well. He also enjoys bushcraft and wilderness survival.
