College Fridays
Seniors and their parents are invited to participate in College Fridays with Mrs. Balzer to learn about the different aspects of planning and preparing for college, particularly if your students plans to attend a 4-year college in the fall of 2021. Seniors will be very busy in the next few months as they apply for college, financial aid, scholarships and other postsecondary options. Madison counselors are hosting virtual College Fridays, 1:30-3 pm, to provide seniors and parents with information about UC/CSU and private colleges to help students prepare for the college application process and the financial aid season; the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) deadline is March 2, 2021. NOTE: Apply for the 2021-22 school year at www.fafsa.gov. Parents are encouraged to participate with their student; as parents need to provide financial information and will also need to create an FSA ID (Electronic Signature). The Zoom code and password for the college meetings are available in Google Classroom. Parents are welcome to attend with their students.
Sallie Mae Offers Scholarship Webinars
Scholarships can be a huge help to college-bound students and their families, but many don’t know where to find them, or how to apply. Sallie Mae is offering a free webinar to help students and families learn key tips on applying for scholarships, how to create a winning scholarship essay, and more. Space is limited, so register early!
Sallie Mae's free Scholarship Search connects students to scholarship opportunities based on their hobbies and interests. The database now has over 6 million scholarships worth up to $30 billion in free money for college. Plus, when students register, they can enter for a chance to win a monthly sweepstakes. To celebrate National Scholarship Month, we’ve upped the $1,000 prize to $10,000 during the month of November. In addition, The Sallie Mae Fund, in partnership with The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, will provide a total of $3 million in scholarships over the next three years to help minority students and other historically underserved communities access higher education and complete their postsecondary education programs. More information about how to apply will be available in early 2021.
