CURBSIDE DRIVE-BY PICK UP
ALL STUDENTS NEED TO PICK UP THEIR SUPPLIES
AUGUST 10 AND 11 11:00 AM-4:00 PM
The Curbside Drive-By Pick Up will be at the smaller circular drive on MARCHMAN WAY.
We are one of the campuses providing childcare for district staff via PASAR during our professional development as we prepare for the new year. For this reason, we are unable to utilize our gym or Caravan Dr.
Supplies and materials for our students are laid out down multiple hallways in alpha order by grade level rather than the gym. In addition the amount of material for each child is significant (thus heavier) so with families with multiple students you will have multiple 'runners' bringing materials to your car to place supplies in your trunk.
We will be practicing social distancing and wearing masks.
We are asking for your patience and your grace for us and for one another as we work through both the distribution and the traffic flow together.
Enter the south entrance of the school on Marchman Way.
Exit from the north exit.
WHAT WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL/WHAT WE ARE ASKING:
We ask you drive northbound on Marchman Way to turn right into the school driveway.
We ask that you turn right (again northbound) to exit to help with traffic flow.
We realize this is a bit of an inconvenience but believe it will help keep the line moving and the traffic flowing.
If a line should form in the southbound lane while waiting to turn left into the driveway we ask that you not block the residential streets that enter onto Marchman Way. But again, we ask your consideration and to enter and to exit traveling northbound on Marchman Way.
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE:
- We will have Learning Materials for each student.
- If you do not have a Mathews Chromebook at home you will also be able to pick up a Chromebook for each Mathews student in your home.
- If you ordered school supplies through the PTA we will have those ready for you to pick up as well.
- If you ordered a 2019-2020 yearbook we will pass that out to you at this time.
MONDAY, AUGUST 10
TUESDAY, AUGUST 11
11:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.
HOW THIS WILL WORK:
Please remain in your car and pop your trunk open.
We will put all supplies IN YOUR TRUNK.
You will need to have a sign in your passenger front window with each child's first and last name and grade they will be entering for the 2020-21 school year. Please use large print.
Also beside the grade level of each child write a 'C' if you need a Chromebook.
Example: Tricia Powell 5C
Or if you already have a Chromebook:
Example: Tricia Powell 5
This will help us expedite the pick-up process.
Once you have a Chromebook for each Mathews student in your home, please complete the Survey/Agreement by pressing the button below. If you already have Chromebooks from Mathews in your home from last spring, you can complete the information at this time. (Just click the red button below.)
FORMER 5TH GRADE STUDENTS:
If you are a former 5th grade Mathews 2020 graduate and still have your Chromebook need you to come by during this time to return your Mathews Chromebook. We currently have 30 5th graders with Chromebooks still checked out.
CHROMEBOOK ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM: REQUIRED
So we can serve our community best. Please complete one survey for each student in your home that attends Mathews. There is also a place to share what your current wi-fi status is at your home in order to support Remote Learning. Thank you!

ONLINE DAILY SCHEDULE OVERVIEW
However, we want to share with you an overview of what our ONLINE Remote Learning will look like. Please know we have taken into consideration homes with multiple elementary aged children. We have also looked at how we scheduled our special programs time such as PACE and Math Rocks as well as meeting the needs of our students served through Special Education, Speech, 504 and Dyslexia.
START OF THE DAY: 7:40 a.m.
Learning BEGINS at 7:40 a.m. each day. This will include announcements and will be a synchronous lesson which means it is 'live' with your child's teacher. Students will log in to Google Meets via Google Classroom to attend their first lesson of the day using their district Chromebooks.
ATTENDANCE: Students must log in through their Google classroom through webdesk using their PISD Chromebook each day. Attendance is based on logging in and in actively participating in completion towards daily assignments.
LUNCH/RECESS: 11:00-11:50 each day
All lunch schedules and recess (break schedules) will be at the same time for all grade levels. This will help you as a parent to tend to lunch and playtime for your children at one time rather than scattered throughout the day.
Your child's instruction will be comprised of both synchronous (Live lessons) and asynchronous (Students work independently on teacher prepared lessons).
In addition, just as in the face to face learning experience students will work with their teacher(s) in online live small groups to target and maximize individual student growth.
INSTRUCTION: Students must log in through their Google classroom using their PISD Chromebook each day. Attendance is based on logging in and in regards to participation in completion towards daily assignments. If your child is absent from classes you will need to provide an email to your child's teacher regarding the absence just as we do with face to face learning.
GRADES: Student completion of assignments and student engagement in synchronous lessons (live) will be used to monitor student growth and mastery. Students in grades three through five will receive grades reflective of their work.
END OF THE DAY:
The school day ends at 2:45 in regards to any scheduled live (synchronous) lessons.
Depending on the needs of your family, students may work on their lessons later in the day.
MEET THE TEACHER
Check your Email: Noon on Tuesday, August 11
Please be sure you have updated your information in Parent Portal so we have the proper email addresses!
The email will include a recording from your child's teacher as well as specific information regarding your child's daily schedule.
Also included with be FlipGrid recordings from our Mathews Support Staff and Office Staff to welcome your children back. This will allow your child to see familiar faces and meet new members of our staff as well.
NEW DISTRICT FOOD POLICIES
- Birthday treats for classrooms of students are no longer permitted. Teachers will continue to acknowledge student birthdays in the classroom as in past years, but food will no longer be shared with students.
- If students plan to eat food from home for lunch, they need to bring a packed lunch with them when they arrive to school in the morning. Students will keep their lunches in their own backpack until lunch time. Hot lunch drop offs are no longer permitted.
