Week 5 of Distance Learning Coming Up! Keep Crushing It!
Way to Go, Team!
Way to keep the great momentum going around here. Thanks to all who helped with the Friday student resource pick up in one way or another!
My apologies for getting the WAG out on Saturday instead of Friday. With the student resource pick up, I was unsuccessful at #allthethings.
I am super impressed we got the pinks and blues project completed on Friday! Wahoo! Thanks Ms. Gies for your speedy copying skills! Teams - please pick a couple of times you would like to do class placements between now and May 15. Send your suggested time(s) to Amy, Clare, and Suzanne and we'll confirm.
In case you missed our staff meeting on Thursday, we talked about staffing and we have some upcoming changes/celebrations for next year:
- Teri is retiring! We are so excited for you Teri!
- Heather Law and Maureen Tracy will be full time!
- Leslie Ransom (shared in an earlier Penngrove Press) will be moving on as she takes a position at Petaluma High School!!!
- Marianne Barrell will continue with as our GEE Coordinator but will resign her position as a 1.0 FTE!
And in late breaking news:
- Heather Sposato will be returning to Penn after being on a leave of absence for a few years raising her littles. Heather taught at Penngrove from 2012-18 before beginning her leave of absence. Heather is thrilled to be joining the 3rd grade team!
Grade level teams will be as follows:
TK: Salazar
Kinder: Hlebakos, Moreda, Sanders
1st: Alcocer, Benedetti, Sartori
2nd: Law, Riley, Tracy
3rd: Ciccotelli, Mainaris, Sposato
4th: Judson, Zeidler
5th: Moran, Weaver
6th: Januleski, Newman
You'll receive a separate email with information on Staff Appreciation Week which is this coming week. YAY! I do know that PTA is a pretty sad they cannot make it as special as they usually do.
My weekly message for this coming week is ready for you! Grab the link below or click here. If you have any topics you'd like me to address in future messages, please send those ideas my way!
Oh, one last thing! We started a doc for "zoom class meeting ideas" and it's on the Team Penn Master Doc as well. Please add any great ideas to this doc to support your colleagues when they need some inspiration. I loved the virtual field trip I went on to Disneyland with Ms. Riley's class! Let me know if you have any field trips planned or any extra special things and I'll try and join! If you do decide to adjust or alter the frequency or number of students in your Zoom calls this week, please make sure you reflect that on the Penngrove Distance Learning Doc.
Can't wait to see what Mrs. Olufs comes up with this week for "Behind the Scenes with Mrs. Olufs"! That will definitely be something you could share via a Zoom meeting.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Amy

Thank you, Classified Staff!!
Thank you TK and K!
As we all switched over to distance learning I was anxious as to what my role would look like without physically being with the kids. The team didn’t skip a beat with pulling me into important conversations, including me in planning and, no matter what ideas I brought to the table they were met with enthusiasm.
Being a part of this team this school year has been incredibly rewarding and I have them (and all of Team Penn) to thank!”

Please address with families:
I received this great suggestion below from a parent about what to highlight in my "weekly message". Any thing you can do to address this on your end would be greatly appreciated also!
"I’ve heard lots of questions from friends (and have had my own doubts) on how much to help / guide your kid’s work. For instance when to have them correct their spelling on assignments or when to allow them to sound things out and turn in as is.
Maybe a general message about how to balance it, that it’s ok to do what works best with your kid, or any advice you’d give?"

Innovations Showcase
I hope you're all doing well! As you may know, we typically have an Innovations Showcase for our students to show off their work in the Spring. Since we can't do anything in person, we're going to have a virtual showcase. (More on our website at https://www.petalumacityschools.org/showcase.)
Please share this information with your school community, we'd love to have participation from all schools! Below is the link to our video message about it, feel free to link to it or embed it anywhere. I've also attached what we sent out from the district (English & Spanish) as a word document—use/edit as you see fit!

Danna Rocca from Sixth Grade Academy is the point person, but I'm helping her, so feel free to reach out to either of us if you have any questions.

PTA Staff Discretionary Funds
If you have any Staff Discretionary or other FOPPTA fund reimbursement requests that you would like to submit, please feel free to e-mail a scan/photo of the form and receipts to fopptatreas@gmail.com OR mail to Erica Arent, 402 Ormsby Lane, Petaluma CA 94954. We are making an exception to the no e-mail reimbursement requests during this time of unknowns, however please hold on to the originals to submit once the school office is open and easily accessible. Due to the unexpected adjustment to distance learning, we will be allowing any staff discretionary funds remaining this year to roll over into your staff discretionary funds for next year. Please submit all reimbursement requests this year by May 15th, and then you will once again be able to submit requests next year as of July 1st.
The staff discretionary tracking sheet is updated to reflect current amounts remaining and can be found here.
The reimbursement form can be found at:
