APRIL 2021

Big picture

We are in the final stretch of a very unique school year! With that being said, there is no other school community that I would rather be a part of especially when times are challenging. Our theme this year was "Be The Game Changer" Throughout our CWE Campus and CWE Community I see and hear words of encouragement, acts of perseverance, and a true game changing mindset! I am proud to serve you and your children. Thank you for an amazing school year! And for making our school feel like "home."

A few reminders:

We have accommodated many parents who wished to make a learning change option for their child for the remainder of the year. If you still need to make a request please email me ( and our DMT Carla Williams ( if you wish to return to campus for face to face learning,

Please make certain your Eagles have a mask for school daily. We recommend students use a mask lanyard and keep an extra mask in their backpack.

Although the CDC does not require a mask to be worn if you have been vaccinated, please note that schools continue to mandate masks. If you need to enter the school to pick up your child or conduct business, you must wear a mask to be permitted in the office.

Please call the school if there is a positive COVID case in the household or pending test results for your child, and further direction will be given regarding when your student may return to school.

Please review the dress code on page 38 of the Student Code of Conduct. Specifically the length of tops/blouses (no midriff) and the length of shorts/skirts (must be mid-thigh length or longer).

Stay tuned to our school marquee, our school website, and the school & PTA Facebook pages to keep updated with school information throughout the year.

5th grade parents- All middle school course selections sheets are due back to the middle schools. You can send them directly to the middle school or send them to me with your child (Attn: Laura Trudell) and I will forward them on. If you haven’t returned them, please do so ASAP.

Emotional Regulation with kids 😊

Second graders have been learning about emotional regulation and taking deep breaths to calm down. They each made a pinwheel / flower breathing tool to practice the perfect deep breath. Family discussions on emotional regulation can begin with strategies to calm down, like taking a deep breath. Don’t huff and puff like the Big Bad Wolf. Remaining calm is your “superpower.”

If you need any additional resources or strategies to help your child, please reach out Laura Trudell.

Mask Update

We've seen an increase of students not having a mask when arriving to school. Please double check in the morning before leaving for school that you child has his/her mask. District policy requires all students and staff to wear a face covering/mask while on campus. This includes parents who wait at the PreK gate for their walker to arrive in the afternoon.

Just a friendly reminder that students are not permitted to wear masks that have vents or holes. Please make sure reusable masks are washed regularly!! Good hygiene helps to promote good health and wellness for our students.

Happy Spring, Volunteers!

I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Spring Break and are happy to be back in school (of course, last year was a completely different story.) We are missing everyone terribly and feel the loss of “in person” volunteering in the classrooms, book fairs, field trips, tutoring, face to face mentoring and more. Though the district has decided not to allow volunteering on campus for the remainder of the school year, hopefully we will be able to welcome our volunteers back this fall. Those of you who have been supporting us from home, thank you! Please remember to record all your volunteer hours in the volunteer system (PTA and SAC…hint, hint 😊) Every hour counts and will be reported to Tallahassee at the end of the school year. Please use the attached instructions for assistance with the volunteer system, your login and how to record your hours.

If you’ve ever thought about being a Lunch Pal/Mentor to one of our students, please consider signing up for one of the free virtual workshops shown on the attachment. A Lunch Pal is another caring adult in a student’s life who listens and encourages them to make good choices and to always do their best in life and in school. Currently, our students are meeting virtually over Zoom every Tuesday during lunch for 30 minutes. We are hoping that next year we will be able to offer face to face again. Whether you want to begin this school year or wait until next year, now is a great time to take the training. These will be the last webinars offered for the remainder of this school year, so please sign up and we will match you with a student when you’re available.

Thanks again for your patience and continued support!

Submitting Requests For Changes In Learning Options

For the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, if you would like to request a change for your child’s learning option at any time, please review the information below.

  • Parents may request a change for the second semester from/to face-to-face learning and from/to MyPCS Online for the remainder of the school year.
  • Parents should be aware that changing Learning Options may result in a change of teachers and/or teaching model. A teaching model change could be simultaneous instruction where the teacher is working with students face to face and virtually throughout the school day.
  • All requests should be submitted directly to the school principal and data management technician via email.
  • Requests will be processed, and changes will be made within a week of the request for the remainder of the year.
