CLIO HIGH SCHOOL
Inspire • Empower • Achieve
Greetings from Mr. Ayre!
This "newness" reminded me of a sound clip that I heard from a college football coach during a media day. He reminded his staff, players, and fans - that every season, nothing from last season carries over to the current one. You have to start working again and make the plays that need to be made. No one gets to defend a title because it is all up for grabs again.
It could be powerful to talk to your student about this (whether an athlete or not). The start of this year doesn't remember that you missed a few assignments last year -- or that you did them all perfectly! Our teachers and support staff get to bring a newness to their roles as well. Let's take advantage!
In this SMORE, you will find some information, but please be on the lookout for our back to school packets that are being mailed home.
To close out this part, our district vision is something that we are proud of and reminds us that we do have an important task in raising and educating our students:
Inspire Imagination • Empower the Future • Achieve Personal Best

STUDENT HANBOOK UPDATE
All of that is taking place right now, and still must be approved by our school board.
One policy that we are looking into changing to improve student engagement is cellphone use during classes. Any change we present to the board would be to stop usage in class, but not between classes or at lunches.
We understand the age we are in and do not see the need to go to a completely ZERO TOLERANCE policy with phones. We do, however, see the need to reduce the level of competition for student attention during class. Feedback and observation has made it clear that phones and earbuds are out during classes and used too often for non-academic reasons.
THANK YOU from all teachers and staff for supporting a reasonable and applicable plan for cellphone use and for supporting our handbook as a whole. In the end -- we are trying to value learning time. As soon as the entire handbook and any policy changes are approved, we will release communication of this.
