Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we find ourselves in June and in the final weeks, days really, of our school year. Like all of you and especially our children, I'm looking forward to the easier pace that summer affords. That said, this month promises to be busy.

As we begin the final stages of our student placement process, please let us know if your child will not be attending Florence Sawyer School next year. (This does not apply to our current eighth graders.) This will allow us to ensure that we can complete school records requests to provide a smooth transfer to your child's next school.

Spring athletics came to a close today with the final softball and baseball games. I'd like to publicly thank our coaches; Coach Caligiuri, Coach Salka, Coach Kelly, Coach Brownell, and Coach Soucie. We are grateful for the time, energy, and passion that you shared with our student-athletes.

Finally, tonight I'm excited to announce that we have appointed Kerryann Coppinger to our Assistant Principal position. Ms. Coppinger will work in the Emerson Wing with our Pre-K, K, and 1st-grade students, focusing primarily, although not exclusively, on Preschool through second grade.

Ms. Coppinger has written the following letter of introduction to our school community.

Dear Florence Sawyer School Community,

My name is Kerryann Coppinger, and I am writing to you with great excitement and a deep sense of gratitude as I introduce myself as a newly appointed Assistant Principal at Florence Sawyer. It is such an honor to join this community, and I am eager to get to know each and every individual that makes this school such a special place.

For the past twelve years, I have had the privilege of serving the Lowell Public Schools in various capacities. My educational career began as the teacher of the kindergarten-plus program, where I worked closely with students facing social and emotional behavioral challenges. This experience ignited my passion for supporting and nurturing our youngest and most unique learners. Over the years, I have also had the opportunity to teach second grade and kindergarten in a mainstream setting. Two years ago, I took the role of math coach, working collaboratively on the school leadership team to enhance instructional practices and student growth. This past fall, I was also fortunate to step up as interim Assistant Principal during a medical leave, which provided me an invaluable experience and a deeper understanding of the importance of a collaborative leader.

My academic journey began at Wheelock College in Boston, where I obtained both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Early Childhood Education. In 2017, I completed my CAGS in Educational Leadership and Management at Fitchburg State University, further developing my skills as an academic leader. Beyond my professional endeavors, I am a devoted wife and mother of two children with whom I enjoy spending time together exploring the outdoors.

As I step into my new role at Florence Sawyer, I look forward to collaborating and serving both the community of Bolton and the greater Nashoba Regional School District. I firmly believe that strong partnerships between educators, students, families, and the wider community are essential to fostering an environment where all learners can thrive and have a strong sense of belonging. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal, and I look forward to our future work together.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Kerryann Coppinger

Our new administrative team will host a "Get to Know the FSS Administrators over Coffee" this summer and hope that you can join us.

Yours in partnership,
