Fun in Fourth Grade
A Newsletter About Our Fantastic 4th Grade "Chastain-ians"
Happy Friday, all! Below you will find a few reminders and updates. But first…
Heartfelt Thanks
I really appreciate the classroom donations that have come in this week! Many thanks to the Williams and Valdez families for providing us with paper and glue sticks! Your generous support is really appreciated.
Notes about this coming week...
Volunteers
Many of you will signed up to assist with classroom volunteer opportunities. Thank you so much for generously offering up your time. If your availability permits, I would like to begin math volunteers this coming week. Those who signed up to assist with reading/writing blocks, I will begin integrating these volunteers in the classroom after we conclude our novel study of the Westing Game. I will email these volunteers in a couple of weeks to get us started. I will be in touch with other volunteers who signed up next week.
Speaking of volunteers...Do we have anyone who is interested in being our room parent? This person would mainly help organize our class for WAVE events like Fall Festival and the International Festival. If interested, please send me an email. Thanks for considering!
Engrade
Last weekend I let you know about our online grading program, Engrade Pro. User names and passwords will come home on Monday. I encourage parents to log onto Engrade every week or two to obtain "real time" feedback about your child's performance. Please let me know next week if you have any difficult accessing your child's grades and I will help you troubleshoot.
SacMath Competition
This competition is for elementary, middle and high school students. It will take place at Winston Churchill Middle School at 4900 Whitney Avenue in Carmichael. Students competing in grades 3-6 will compete on Sunday, 9/29 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Each contest features individual events for all students along with team events. Younger students are welcome at all contests. Awards will be given to top-scoring students in individual events (by grade level) and top-scoring Teams. Registration Fee: $10 per student. For details about contest events and format and to register,
visit the SACMATH website (www.sacmath.com). Questions? Contact Jeff Soesbe of SACMATH at sacmathcontests@gmail.com.
More about Math...
We are finishing up comparing, ordering and rounding numbers and the test will be on Tuesday. 4th grade IXL Strands that correspond with these tested skills are A.6 and A.9. Next up: Addition and subtraction of whole numbers. 4th grade IXL strands for these skills are: B.1-B.9 and C.1-C.7. I realize this covers a lot of material. But remember I assign amounts of time, not strands mastered for homework. Students will be pre-tesed for this unit. Those who test proficient will be assigned "above grade level" strands. By mid-week, these students will have information about the IXL strands they will be working on.
Spelling City Reminder
We had a few students who received Conduct Efforts for Spelling City tests. Just a reminder that students will take the test at home on Thursday evening. Please remind your child that you need to watch them take the test without assistance. You can then print and sign the test, or write me a note indicating that you supervised the test. Thanks for helping your child establish this routine!
