Dmitri Mendeleev
His Atomic Theory
A Little About Mendeleev
When Dmitri was 16 he was accepted to the Institute of Pedagogy. Since his father graduated from there, he won a place, part because his father went to school there and the other is because the head of the college had known his father.
He earned.his master's degree and soon after became a professor and research in chemistry. As a professor, Dimitris first teaching spot was at St. Petersburg Technological Institute, then at the University of St. Petersburg, where he remained through 1890. During his teaching, he realized he was in need of a quality textbook. So, he took it upon himself to create his own, The Principles of Chemistry. During his research to his book, he found some information that later led to his most famous achievement. He noticed some certain recurring patterns between two different groups of elements, using his existing knowledge about chemical and physical patterns he was able to make some further connections.
Carefully, he was able to create a systematically arranged grid-like diagram using the atomic weight of an element. With this system he could even predict the qualities of even unknown elements.
In 1869, Dmirti presented his discovery of the periodic law to the Russian Chemical Society. In the beginning, Dmitri had very few supporters in the international scientific community. Buy, after almost two decades, his theory became gradually accepted. With three new discoveries that possessed the qualities of his earlier predictions.
