CMS-Steele Creek Safety Protocols
Dear Parents,
Please know that our priority is the safety of every child and adult in our school community. Because we want to protect everyone to the greatest extent possible, here are safety protocols we will follow at Steele Creek Elementary. The protocols are in alignment with district guidelines for safety.
Students and staff no longer need to complete the online symptom screener and have temperatures checked. Families are asked to monitor for symptoms at home and keep students home if they are ill.
All students, staff, and visitors 2 and over must wear a mask at all times while inside CMS buildings.
Students desks will be 3 ft apart to the greatest extent possible when masked, 6 ft without masks. We will maintain accurate seating charts in the classroom and cafeteria as well as attendance for contact tracing in classrooms, PE/recess, small groups, and the cafeteria.
Because we must limit student capacity in the cafeteria, students will eat outside or in classrooms as needed.
Visitors and volunteers are allowed however will be limited to essential visits coordinated and approved by an administrator. Lunchroom visitors are not allowed at this time. Volunteers must wear a face covering and will be required to sign in (contact information, time in and out, who the volunteer interacts with). Volunteers and visitors must maintain 6 ft social distancing.
For Open House and Curriculum Night, all participants must wear face coverings. Times will be staggered to reduce crowds.
In an effort to reduce/limit exposure, parents are not allowed to walk students into school. Adults will be stationed throughout the building to ensure students arrive safely to their classrooms and other parts of the building.
We will maintain an isolation/care room for any students who have COVID-like symptoms.
Students are permitted to use the playground and share playground equipment.
Students are allowed to share classroom materials. We will continue hand-washing and sanitizing.
Students are encouraged to bring a personal water bottle for use at school and utilize the water bottle filling stations.
At Steele Creek, we will follow state and district guidelines and protocols, which are subject to change based on protocols and safety measures approved by CMS.
Students considered a close contact in a classroom setting (or bus) will not need to quarantine if face coverings are worn consistently by those exposed and infected.
If someone is fully vaccinated and does not have any symptoms, they would not need to be quarantined if they are a close contact, even if they live with the positive individual. They are encouraged to get tested 3-5 days after exposure.
Fully vaccinated individuals who test positive must quarantine for the standard 10 days from symptoms start, no fever, and symptoms improved.
If a close contact is identified and they are not wearing a face covering, here are the quarantine time frames:
14 days for pre-k or students unable to wear face coverings and distance
10 days for anyone able to maintain precautions
7 days IF after 5 days the person has no symptoms and gets a negative test
The safety of our students and staff will continue to be a priority, and we appreciate your support. If you have questions, please call the school at 980-343-3810.
Thank you,
Karen Dozier
