Growing with STEM in 4th Grade

October 13-16

Recap From Last Week

I hope everyone enjoyed their day off for Columbus day! We spent our day gaining insight on our garden and how to integrate it into our classrooms on a regular basis. Thanks to all of you that participated in National Walk to School day last week. There were nearly 100 scholars/parents that participated this year! Over 200 creations were brought in on Friday for our second annual Cardboard Creation Challenge. It was amazing to see how creative our 4th graders could be outside of school!

NASH FARM

REMINDER! Nash Farm is October 20th. We need all money and permission forms in by THIS Friday! We have most permission forms in but are still missing the $3 entry fee from many students. This is required for your scholar to attend.

What We are Learning

Math- This week we are stating a unit in problem solving. This will involve addition and subtraction with numbers up to the billions.

Science- Scholars will be finishing up the water cycle and beginning a unit on weather which includes tool and predicting. We hope to be spending a lot of time in the garden for this unit!

Social Studies- The scholars will be researching to understand the impact of geography on different American Indian groups in Texas.

Reading- The scholars will be continuing to read Fish in a Tree and will begin to identity the function of text features while reading.

Writing- Scholars will apply criteria to evaluate the quality of writing texts and discuss using ways to improve them.

iPad Reminders

Just a few reminders about our IPads. Please be sure to have your scholars power down and charge their IPads daily. Also, please have your scholar keep a pair of headphones or earbuds with them in their backpacks. There are a number of activities on their IPads such as spelling tests where earbuds or headphones are needed. If a scholar comes to school without their IPads charged or without their headphones they may not be able to participate in our daily activities. We that you in advance and appreciate your help in ensuring that your scholars are prepared for school
