Ways to improve memory
- In order to truly remember information, it must be moved from the short-term memory into long term memory. This means attention is required in order to study efficiently.
- Remove yourself from distractions so you can focus on your subject or work.
- Do not try to cram information, distribute your studying out over time.
- Make sure you are organized when studying and find effective ways to stay organized according to what works for you.
- Elaborative rehearsal helps to connect new information to the memories that you have already stored inside your head, meaning repetitively studying information helps to keep the material stored.
- Try to use Mnemonic devices or strategies used to associate the new material with older information, making it easier to remember.
- Try to explain the material to other people to test your memory and confirm your knowledge.
- Remember to ALWAYS put sleep above studying so you can focus on the material and not how tired you are.
