STEP UP TO THE PLATE
The Hall Way...
Hello Warhawks!
Fall is here! Between football games, saying goodbye to the humidity, and the change to the beautiful fall colors, I am loving this time of year.
It also is the time of year when our students are really getting into the groove of school, their relationships with peers and teachers are getting stronger, and hopefully they are feeling more comfortable about asking questions and participating in their classes. Fall is also when we invite our families to meet with our staff for conferences. The connection between home and school is an integral part of the success of our students and we appreciate the support we receive from our families. Please see the information about parent-teacher conferences below.
The Warhawk Weekly is our newsletter for families and students. Each week we will share important updates and information. Please contact the school office with any questions and/or concerns you have now or anytime throughout the school year. Together we can provide a positive environment for our students to be successful and to support them to STEP UP TO THE PLATE!

Dear Parents/Guardians:
It is time to schedule your Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences. We appreciate the parent survey feedback on preferences. We used the survey results to structure our conference days to host both in-person and virtual sessions. The schedule is as follows:
CONFERENCE FOR STUDENTS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
Wednesday, October 5, 2022 - 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. - IN PERSON ONLY
Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 9:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. - REMOTE/VIRTUAL ONLY
Parents who live in the same household are asked to schedule only one conference per household. Parents who live in separate households may schedule separately if desired.
You are a vital partner in the education of your child. Parent/teacher conferences play an integral role in providing feedback regarding your child’s progress as well as formulating individual plans for success. We look forward to seeing you at conferences.
Sincerely,
D200 Administration

Baier's Box - News from the Assistant Principal
As you may know the hallways here at Northwood can get pretty congested and some undesirable behaviors occur. Recently, we have had water that is being squirted down the halls and on individuals. This has caused some individuals to slip and fall, clothes getting wet, and unneeded work for our custodial staff. As of Monday, September 12th, we ask that students do not bring in athletic squirt water bottles to school.
Thank you for all your support and go WARHAWKS!
Next PTO meeting is Monday, October 17.
We will have our next meeting in the NMS Library at 6pm on Monday, October 17.
Students - Is your BRAIN Healthy and Ready to Learn?
If you went through the checklist below, how many could you check off? Stay tuned as we will explore the important things your brain needs to be READY TO LEARN!
MY SAEBRS Survey This Week
D200 is committed to providing a wide range of support to all students. Therefore, we want to be sure that during these stressful times we are watching carefully for signs that students are struggling. MySAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) is a brief and efficient tool for universal screening of student risk for social-emotional and behavioral problems for students in Grades K through 12.
All D200 students 6-8 will be asked to complete a very brief 10 minute survey. This will be done this week during PRIDE Groups. Our social workers will assist in this work and look specifically for students that need support during this time.

News from the Nurse
Northwood Families,
Just a reminder that if your student requires any medication to be given or used during the school day, a new medication authorization form needs to be completed by a parent/guardian AND health care provider. If your student uses an inhaler or EpiPen and is able to administer those medications to themselves, then a "Self administration form" needs to be completed by both parent/guardian AND health care provider and returned to the health office. Those are the only two medications that a student may give themselves at school, as long as that form is completed and handed in.
Any ordered medications to be dispensed at school can be dropped off by a parent or guardian. The medication must be in the original, labeled, and unopened container, along with the medication authorization form completed. If the medication is over the counter, it still requires an order medication authorization form. Due to cabinet space, we ask that all medication is in a small bottle.
Also, please remember that all sixth graders and new students to the school are required by the state of Illinois to have a new physical and dental exam. Please feel free to email the information to me at ngrismer@wcusd200.org or drop off the paperwork at the front office. If you send the paperwork in with your child please touch base with me to ensure that I have received it, many times it remains in the backpack. If you have any questions, please reach out.
I look forward to seeing you all soon!
