Why They Came To America

They came to America because of the 1866-1888 event called the Suuret Nalka Vuodet (the great hunger years). This bad event killed 15% of the Finns. Since the great hunger years happened the Finns came for farmland and food. Another reason is that gold discoveries in California influenced them to come to America.

When They Came To America

Finns started coming to America in the mid 19th century. In 1930 over 35000 Finns travelled to America.
