Art Lines from Mr. Olson
Greetings from the Art Department!
What a creative month of October we had! The students were very busy and have started taking home much of their awesome work!
The Kindergarteners have been having a great time painting! They have created some fall trees and spent time learning the order of the rainbow/color wheel! Our First Graders are completing the color unit with an introduction to the art of Claude Monet, the French impressionalist! Second Graders are learning about the famous artist Vincent van Gogh and are creating painting using his style. Abstract landscapes are the theme in third grade and they are also working on understanding where foreground, middle ground and background fit in an artwork. The Fourth Graders are finishing an intensive unit on 1 point perspective. They have worked very hard on drawing 3 dimensional shapes and popping out from the paper. Please help me by reviewing the elements of art if you have a Fifth Grade student (Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Value, Space, and Form). The Fifth Graders completed their analogous color scheme castle.
I hope you all have a great finish to fall and I look forward to see you around the building!
Mr. Olson

Physical Education Fun with Mr. Casey, Mrs. Tanberg, and Mrs. Voigt
Students at Jackson Elementary School have just finished their Fitness Tests. Students have also finished their soccer unit and are just ending their football unit. They will also be starting the volleyball unit soon. Skills they will learn in the volleyball unit are serving, bumping, setting and the rules of the game. Our younger students will also learn a lead up volleyball game called deck tennis. Deck tennis will work on throwing and catching skills and also on teamwork. The obstacle course is another activity students will be doing. It is designed to work specific muscle groups such as leg strength, upper body strength, balance, bilateral movement, endurance and most of all "IT'S FUN"!
Mr. Jeff Casy (jcasey@shakopee.k2.mn.us)
Mrs. Sue Tanberg (stanberg@shakopee.k12.mn.us)
Mrs. Kelly Voigt (kvoigt@shakopee.k12.mn.us)
If anyone has some old tennis shoes that they would like to donate to the Physical Education Department it be greatly appreciated. We have students who do not have tennis shoes to wear for physical education and we would like to give them a pair. Please make sure the tennis shoes are clean and free of rips and tears.
Greetings from the Learning Commons!
Notes from Natalie Weatherman (Digital Learning Coach)
One common conversation that I hear from parents and community members is that technology is changing so fast that is is difficult to keep up with it all. I know as a parent I find myself wondering, "What movies and TV shows are out there that are appropriate for my child?" OR as I hear a questionable comment from the TV show that my 7-year-old is watching, I wonder, "What is this show rated?".
If you are questioning what is appropriate doe your children or are looking for suggestions for movies, TV shows, books, video games, and websites, I highly recommend using the Common Sense Media website as a reference to learn more. You can also find articles to help guide your parenting decisions and conversations with your children about online safety, cellphones, cyberbullying, screen time, and other topics that are important in our technology-connected world.
Greetings from Media Class!

Students in Kindergarten though Second Grade have been hearing the Star of the North Award nominees and have started to learn about and practice the different station activities that they will be starting soon.
Students in Third Grade have been doing a scavenger hunt activity to hone their skills in locating books in the different areas of the library. They will be beginning a Digital Citizenship unit next.
Students in Fourth and Fifth Grade have finished hearing about all of the Maud Hart Lovelace award nominees for this year and have begun checking them out. Please encourage them to participate! They only need to read three of the ten titles to vote in March. They have also been doing a scavenger hunt in the library, honing their skills at locating books in all of the different areas. We will be beginning a unit on Digital Citizenship next.
PTO NEWS
Hello Jackson Families! First things first, you all deserve a HUGE THANK YOU for helping to make our Jackson Fun Run a HUGE success -- the school raised $22,478! We had a great weather day and it was so much FUN! We loved the lessons Boosterthon brought into our already great learning community. We had had a busy October, with our Grandparents/Special Friends Day and our first ever Kindergarten Breakfast (see pictures below from both events).
We have some great events coming in November and December. We will be providing meals for teachers over conferences and please mark your calendars for a NO-COOK dinner night at Culver's. All funds from dinner nights will be put towards purchasing supplies for our workroom. Gingerbread House Night is also right around the corner on December 3rd. Information will be coming home closer to the event. Lastly, we hope to see you at our next PTO Meeting on Monday, November 5th. We will be hosting Ladibugs, Inc. for Lice 101. Do not forget to stay connected with PTO by joining our private Facebook Group: Jackson Parents. You can also contact us via email at JacksonPTO28@gmail.com.
As always, THANK YOU for your support of our Jackson Community!
