We need your help so we can stay healthy so we can keep learning in-person:
- Do not send your child to school if he she has a fever, cough, fatigue, aches, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other symptoms that might be COVID.
- Do not send your child to school if you have a family member with COVID at home.
The Yakima School District is offering free COVID-19 testing for all students and staff:
- The Rapid Antigen Test (shallow nasal swab) will be conducted once per week during the school day by trained professionals from Premier Medical Group.
- This is an OPTIONAL opportunity that requires parent permission.
- More information will be available next week with confirmed dates and times.
- If you are interested in receiving a COVID-19 test, register online at pmg.app.perseus.id/div/yakima or use the QR code.
Why get tested even if you don’t have symptoms?
- COVID-19 testing can help people to know if they have COVID, even if they don’t have symptoms and/or are vaccinated.

This week, we’ll begin Second Step® Elementary, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve children’s social-emotional skills. We want your child to be successful at Roosevelt. That means supporting and encouraging your child's whole development, including skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others.
In our first Second Step unit, your child will build skills for Growth Mindset & Goal-Setting. Your child will learn how to pay attention and manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
Check out this chart to learn more about this week's Second Step lesson, PLUS a skill that you can try at home!
Here's what colleague Mrs. Georgia Morris wrote when nominating Mrs. Barr:
- I want to pass the Spirit of the Bear Award to Mrs. Marjie Barr this week. She always has a super-happy attitude. She is the best cheerleader for us and for students. She is so good with kids, and she is always there to help. Every time I turn around, there she is—ready to help. Marjie is the best team player ever!
Congratulations, Mrs. Barr, and thank you for sharing the Spirit of the Bear every day at Roosevelt!
As you likely know, Yakima's hospital services are at the breaking point of having to turn people away. Hospital leaders have voiced to YSD and the community, their concern about all people attending large public gatherings at this time, with a special concern for our unvaccinated, young students. They fear the timing of the fair and high rates of COVID-19 in our community could have a negative impact on the service offerings for health in our community.
For this reason, the Yakima School District will not be participating in this program this year only as we do not want to put parents/guardians in the awkward position of their children earning a ticket to the fair when the parents/guardians have chosen not to attend the fair for health reasons. The cancellation of this program is for this year only
